Love And Hate my Kuga!

Why i messed up choosing a big Kuga:

She’s thirsty, this week 33.4 mpg (2 weeks ago the mpg was over 40 mpg so i’m confused?)

Much of the tech is too complicated for me to understand (aircon or EAC whatever that is? radio, speed limiter, cruise control, and whatever that techy thing is that takes control of the steering wheel if i go too close to oncoming traffic.

And i’m still not liking how the Kuga sways when turning (it just doesn’t feel very stable to me).

Why the Kuga was a good choice:

      It’s so damn comfy. Marvellous.

The 10 way electronic drivers seat thing is similarly good. Marvellous.

There’s so much space inside the Kuga. Marvellous.

Slide-out drivers arm rest: I’m not going to lie i have short arms but in the Kuga the drivers arm rest thing slides waaay out meaning for the 1st time in a very long time i can make use of an arm rest. Marvellous.

The Kuga is the first car i’ve ever had that has an electronic tail gate – marvellous.

My 1.5l Kuga is the least powerful in the Kuga range but i’m really pleased at how perky she is. Marvellous.

      Summary:

      ‘Marvellous’ wins the day!

Good to see ya back on the forum Gee, hope you are well.

Indeed its a mixed bag with the Kuga, they are a lot bigger than the old ones.

Most important aspect is, it fits your needs.

The tech on cars is crazy now. You are not alone trying to deal with this stuff. I thought my last car had a lot of tech in it. But my current car is on another level. I just chip away at it, watch some YouTube vids like everyone else. You do get a lot of info there.

The body roll, you woll probably get used to it after a while. Its a big car an not meant to handle like a hot hatch.

@Ioniq I’m glad to be back thank you!

I’m kinda doing okish health wise. We are all in the same boat here with all of us having some good health days and some bad health days. Knowing we are all in the same boat makes this place so much better than other forums on the internet.

As you quite rightly point out the Kuga is indeed a ‘mixed bag’

Thankfully for me the pros definitely outweigh the negatives.

Did that go round corners better ?

Good to hear your feeling better mate 🙂

                    P.S EAC – Eco AC I assume!

@Gee – Health permitting (along with the weather), I’d get in the car with the manual and a pad of paper and pen. Turn engine on, find the correct air con, write it down in a way you can remember, move onto the radio, mirror positions, etc. If needed, tear off the page(s) and put them in the glove box.

As for things like cruise control and speed limiter, take the car for a drive, focus on one thing at a time, when you work out cruise control, pull over, write it down.

It’s repetition; getting into the car, checking your notes, setting the car up, having an understanding of what will happen. Eventually you won’t need the notes, it’ll become routine and should stick in your memory.

Of course, don’t read the notes whilst driving, but maybe for the cruise control/ACC, sticky tape the paper with instructions on the dash.

This helped my father with his new car.

@kezo “Go round corners better?” i literally owned the streets in my granny’s little car.  Milk floats, cyclists and pedestrians were all fair game back then. And even cops walking the beat were targeted (yes cops did walk the beat back then). I only did that one time though because next day two cops showed up at my house and i got beaten within an inch of my life by my dad. Ah the good old days!

Had the diesel model first plenty of grunt . Steering was wild when given hard acceleration ?

Then got the petrol version. Much better car but drank fuel.

Then got the Areca TSI 150 FR Sport .

                              Fantastic . Brilliant at everything.

                                  Hi @Shuffler3

Lots of rave reviews about Ateca models. When i was fixing to change my last Motability car in Sept/October 2023 i also considered the Ateca but my heart was already set on the Kuga.
