I can’t believe it’s come around so soon but here we are again. APs have gone up massively since we picked last time. I’ve given myself an max AP of £4000 so choice is limited.

i had planned to go for a car with V2L but as you can’t believe what’s online, many are listed as V2L but are not, like the Skoda Enyak, so that plan has gone.

As it stands the Skoda Enyak is the front runner, absolutely the best VFM car in the range I am looking at but would it be my first choice if there was a level playing field, no.

I like the look of the Ford Explorer but it’s out of my AP range.

It’s likely I will ask for a two year extension as there are so few options to us at present.

      Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Kezo just back from the dealership and its great news the wheelchair fits into the boot, just,. Had a chat with the Motability guy and he is saying January for the EV3 and summer/Autumn for the EV5. Nice looking car but only one in the showroom so no chance of comparing trim levels.

I like the EV3 and its roomy for its size and probably, as roomy as you xc40. It also has a small boot (frunk/frute) under the bonnet, if you wern’t shown that. I also find Hyundai/Kia dealers very accommodating.

Might be worth looking at the Kona, as they are quite similar inside and also its a slightly bigger car however, the battery is 64.4kW and you can’t get the 80kWh battery but, still good for an acclaimed 320miles, although my mum get 280 in the real world.

Kezo my xc40 feels bigger than the EV3 and the boot is certainly bigger, however I really like the look of the Kia and the tech is very good also. I’m not a fan of the kona but I suppose on Motability you can’t rule anything out as you never know what’s going to be on the scheme when your time comes to change.

I had the electrician in today who’s overseeing the solar/battery and fuse box upgrade and he told me I had to get an MI switch (could be wrong with the initials lol) as he can’t isolate the electricity without it and he can’t instal the switch. So but of anoanic to get this installed before they need it next week. Managed to get a company to instal on Tuesday, another £200 🙄

Mains Isolator Switch, some electrician, if he can’t install an isolator. That said if those overseeing the install, had mentioned it, at the quotation/survey stage your energy provider would have installed one for free and should have done when you had smart meters installed.

Such is life, just a shame, I’m not closer mate, would have done it for a couple of coffee’s and a chat lol.

He said he wasn’t allowed to fit it as he would need to pull out the fuse and only the DNO or approved companies can do that.

It was Octopus Energy who installed the smart meters would they have needed to pull the fuse to install the smart meter?

I’m in S Wales, see ya in half an hour 😂

Electricians can request permission to remove the cut-out fuse, enabling them to carry out work on the consumers side. Some DNO’s turn a blind eye, as it saves them the hassle of comming out for a 10 minute job and will pop round when its convenient, whils’t others will allow electricians to crimp on new seals. For example Western Power authorised me company to recrimp after removal and this has carried over since they became the National Grid.

Energy supplier’s are naturally authorised to carry out this work.

As said, I see to failures here (1) Octopus or their contractor, should have installed an isolator at the time of smart meter installation and I would certainly be ringing them and asking why one wasn’t installed. (2) Your Solar/battery installers, should have picked this up at the survey stage, giving you time to have sorted something out from Octopus or your DNO, enabling a local sparky to have done the work for a fraction of the price you have got to pay. I would question the company fitting your solar/battery, asking why this wasn’t picked up during the survey, as its put you out of pocket on what you thought was an all inclusive price. Certainly worth bringing up!

I will contact Octopus tomorrow and see what they say first before approaching my installer. I’m at the point where I just want it over and done with TBH it’s been a very long journey and it needs to be over 😩
