Made my longest drive yet in the Enyaq 85X, Durham to Glasgow 168 miles.
Mainly 60-70mph using cruise control, Aircon off for prob 90% of the journey, seat heaters on mid. Started off with a reported range of 280miles, quite disappointed to arrive with only 52 miles remaining!.
Weather wasn’t great, long patches of drizzle and 12-14c, car reports only 3.1m/kWHr 🙄
Luckily there’s a cheap fast charge place 2.5 miles away at 36p/kW so will do at least an 80% charge before heading home tomorrow, at least it’s pretty much all down bank so should be better economy I hope!
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Yes, driving on wet roads kills range and it was windy too. Should just leave the aircon on, no real range benefit switching between on/off, just be comfortable.
Predicted range is pure guess work, better using battery percentage.
Enjoy the run home, if not in a hurry I like to go the A68 😁
October 7, 2025 at 5:03 pm #315109Good to hear you were able to make the journey with hopefully not too many aches!
Safe journey home 🙂
October 7, 2025 at 5:05 pm #31511092% when we left, currently on 22%.
Went A1, A69, M6, M74, M8 as seemed the flattest option!. I use the Consett to A68 route when I run shoots at the Otterburn Ranges.
Depending on how much range I have left when I get to Carlisle I may come back that way.
@kezo, managed ok, biggest issue was IBS went into overdrive Sunday night! Seems to have settled but taking imodium just in case! Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
October 7, 2025 at 5:18 pm #315113Forget flattest option, it all hills on the M74 😏☹️. If concerned about range stick to 60/65.
October 8, 2025 at 9:06 am #315119Will charge to 100% this morning then see what’s left as we approach Carlisle. If it’s under 100 miles then I’ll have to get another charge, there’s not a lot in the way of chargers showing on the A69 after there until you get nearer Newcastle.

October 8, 2025 at 9:14 am #315120That consumption is fair enough given the speed/roads/conditions. In my time with the eC4 when it comes to M’way journeys (sat at around 65/70) I always seek to have 1.5 X distance to next intended charge worth of range indicated on the GOM. Which I know will leave me some spare. If I bothered to work it out I think the actual ratio of miles done/GOM used on such journeys would probably be around 1.3ish?
October 8, 2025 at 10:51 am #315146Interesting, i thought the consumption is fairly awful given the speeds/conditions, i can’t speak for the roads since i don’t know that corner.
Last week i did a roughly 200 mile journey (home -> New Quay -> Cardigan -> back home), speed limit everywhere except motorways and dual carriage ways, there usually anywhere between 75 and 78mph, sunroof open (tilt on the motorways, fully open everywhere below 70mph speed limit, closed in rain obviously).
Partial rain, lots of wind – averaged 14.6kwh/100km (sadly that’s how the Hyundai app spits it out despite being set to miles). Converted to usable measure, that’s somewhere around 4.25mi/kwh, with two people plus mother in law in the car. Came back with around 100ish miles “in the tank”.
At first i thought that’s kind of normal due to the Ioniq being considerably sleeker than the Enyaq – but that’s not really the case. Yes, it has a better drag coefficient, but i ruined that with the sunroof. The Enyaq has a pretty good drag coefficient itself (sleeker than a Golf 8, for example – so no brick wall). I also went considerably faster wherever there was national speed limit.
It’s the, imho, entirely useless AWD. 3.1mi/kwh is not a great number – and that number will go down further noticeably, in the coming months. Especially without heatpump (i don’t know if Phaedra spec’d it).
As for the GoM, it’s whatever. Ours isn’t particularly accurate at the beginning of a journey either, it’s just the way they work (it’s an average of your combined last journeys – if they all were driven at 20mph in the city, then the next motorway journey will of course be off – and you really only notice it the “bad way” around, not when you had a few days of bad driving and then on a normal day, you don’t see that you go 1.2 miles for every mile indicated). Next week we’ll drive to the Valley of Rocks, in Somerset – according to google maps, that’s 157 miles away (314 miles total). I may just try to eek that out in one fell swoop if i feel adventurous, but will more likely charge somewhere along the journey for 5 minutes to get home safely.
edit: for shts and giggles, i’d check tyre pressure all around, and potentially top up.

So stuck here for just over an hour!I’ve used the Fastned chargers at Washington before and got 140kw, no limit set in car so no idea 🙄

Disconnect and try one of the other chargers on site.

There are a couple of Tesla chargers north and southbound near Gretna. I,ve used both.
A lot of these charger apps do not list tesla chargepoints. But installing the tesla app and setting it up is easy. You can join for a month if you so wish and get cheap charging.
Its just another tip, if out an about.
October 8, 2025 at 7:19 pm #315156So, checked another charger and got the same, checked with another Enyaq that arrived and they were getting 41kw.
Total charge to 100% too 1h 24m, went down to around 24kW for the final stage. Ended up with a GoM range of 285 at 100%.
Coming back, averaged 3.0m/kWh on M8/M74 keeping to 65-70, an interesting run down as we kept getting passed by unparked police cars (mainy VW) with their red/blue lights on doing well over 100 in the outside lane!, we counted a total of 0! Getting onto the A69 we stopped at a Starbucks in the middle of nowhere near Bardon Mill, then saw another 5 speeding past in both directions! no idea what was going on!.
On last 10-15 miles of M74 and then A69 efficiency went up to 3.6m/kWh, after 167 miles we arrived home with 40% charge and a range of 115 miles remaining so pretty close to the GoM this time.
Overall, quite dissappointed in the range, we all know WTLP is rubbish but Ireally don’t feel confident in using it for any “long distance” trips in the Autumn/Winter. My trip to Whitby in much warmer weather was a lot better, getting 4.2m/kWh so a possible total range of 320-330 miles, first time ever since getting it!.

WHY were you on a rapid till it reached 100%… 🤦♂️ the ONLY reason for doing that is if you were in somewhere being busy (meal, gym, staying at a hotel etc) but you never ever wait that long, especially when you then arrive home on 40%… should’ve definitely unplugged at 80% max as after that is just a waste of time (unless doing something productive with that time!)
As it’s got a bit colder recently I’d definitely check your tyre pressures 🤔
This Saturday we’re off from Glasgow to Farnborough for Everything Electric on Sunday, then straight after up to Harrogate for 3 nights so can tour a bit of Yorkshire, absolutely no worries here about range or charging 🤞 😉 😂
October 8, 2025 at 8:24 pm #315160As we ended up with only a 22% charge on the trip up I wanted maximum range available for the return I really was not happy with only 22% as any detours etc. could happen.
Also the lack of chargers from Carlisle over the A69/68 home was also a worry, I found a couple of expensive one’s just south of Carlisle on Electroverse then not really much else until Haltwhistle or Hexam. The A69/68 is not a place I would like to be stuck on.
Tyre pressures were checked at the weekend prior to the trip, washer fluid was filled with 50% Prestone concentrate and spare clothes, blankets and 2 flasks of soup and tea were packed as well. As I said I go to Otterburn fairly regularly and have almost been cut off with snow/freezing temperatures even in May!!.

October 8, 2025 at 9:00 pm #315163I suppose if you’re not used to long road trips and want to be extra cautious I can understand that, you’ll have a better idea for the next time. I always judge it on battery percentage as opposed to the GoM

Skoda gives pretty accurate estimates for range of their cars (not the WLTP stats).
Skoda says, in Spring/Autumn, with a cabin temperature at 21C and “normal” driving, you should be getting 246 miles of range average. Which you actually had. In winter that’ll drop to 169 miles average.
The numbers you’re getting are normal, and advertised as such.
