Hello, my lease (5 year) ends in February and I’m really struggling to find a car with a reasonable ap and suitable for my needs.

I currently have a Sportage which has been ok. It’s 1.6 awd petrol.
kia have taken it off the scheme so been looking at others. I park on street and can’t guarantee outside my house so full electric not easy. I need the height and boot space due to my disability. I really need an electric handbrake as my left arm looses feeling, also an electric boot as shoulders dislocate. Heated seats would be nice still but can always get a chair thing. I drove a 3008 and 5008 didn’t like them at all.
I looked at paying about £3k ap but there’s either no cars suitable or ap is ridiculous. Any ideas or anyone know if larger suv will come back on the scheme Q1? Like Sportage or quasqui? For example

Hi Laura, in addition to finding a suitable car, the build times for cars is shocking at the moment.

I can see you spending a good bit of time trawling through the Motability website. Citroen do some large vehicles, some of which are more function than form.

        Best of luck.

Hi Laura, we are in exactly the same position. We decided on the Qashqai but as you know it was removed.

I spoke with Nissan last week and they anticipate it back on the scheme in Q1 2022.

We looked at the Tuscon too so might be worth a look, huge boot and very well spec’d (Ultimate), but the access and egress for my wife was a struggle with her legs, hence the Nissan is what we are hoping for.

I have a Kuga and have not looked at the new one as of yet as she finds it easier to get in/out of our current Kuga. If the Qashqai is not coming on, we may extend our lease but I can see you are going to be at the maximum 5 years lease.

I do sympathise with you, the cars available are shocking for my wifes needs.

The ironic thing is we an order a Qashqai and get it March 2022 as a private buyer!

I have  Tuscon and would recommend if you can live with AP’s running into the 000’s.

Hi Laura, have you looked at the Skoda Kodiaq SE L DSG, it has all the things you’ve quoted as standard, electric boot, heated front seats and electric hand brake, plus much much more.  The DSG auto is £3195 and the manual is £2600.  I had one for three years on the scheme and absolutely loved it, the most comfortable car I’ve driven. Still miss 7 months on.  Take look on Skoda.co.uk and try the configurator, you won’t be disappointed.

it is difficult at the mo and the search site doesnt help.

if i select auto the 1021 goes down to 533 select petrol 222 select small and large suv it arrives at 123.

thats 123 varients but only 27 different cars. but then when you start to look some are hybrids, the bayon isnt available as a petrol only. so it becomes very depressing very quickly.its time they got the cars correctly categorised.

at least i have 16 months plus prob a 2 year extention to go as i cant see it improving quickly.

what about a KUGA,  both ST line X and Vignale availabe as MHEV paired with the 2.5 petrol.  quoting 50 mpg , they have EPB, heated seats, auto tailgate and under the £3k AP .  believe the ST line X also has a pan roof.

Thanks for all the advice so far. I need an auto due to left leg not working properly should have said. I know that knocks up the ap already. I went to Ford a few months ago and they were really unhelpful. Do that put me off. I don’t really want to go french as used to own one years ago nothing but issues. Waiting times I know are long but motability will cover me till new car ready so not too worried about that. I looked at Skoda and a few months ago had to pay a lot extra for all I wanted and the seats were uncomfortable. I only have done 29000 in 5 years so definitely need petrol I would kill a diesel.
I just don’t know if to wait for q1 or get now. When did motability become so complicated when I got my last car there was too much choice. If I could get in and out of a hatchback could have changed years ago but don’t get why so many cars have been taken off (I know chip problem on some) when you see adverts for motability on tv all the time.
