AnonymousHello fellow members,
I don’t often post on her, but I am an avid reader.
We have had an petrol Octavia VRS DSG estate for the past three years and love it. The most fun car I have ever had 🙂 . Sadly there just doesn’t seem to be anything on par that we could replace it with. So we have decided to extend for 2 years.
My plan is to keep an eye out for deals coming up, both through Motability and via the ever vigilant members of this forum, but I was wondering if anybody thought it would be worth my while contacting local dealers and telling them my position and if they have anything that’s comes available, to let me know. Do they ever have ex demos, that kind of thing, that they could shift through the Motability scheme?
Thanks for any advice
Andy

No ‘ex demo’ vehicles as Motability insist on being the first registered keeper of their vehicles. So it is brand new, vehicles only.
If your current car suits you well, you can ask for a lease extension of upto a further two years. Motability do say you can do this if your current car has less than 15K miles on the clock, but they can be flexible about this. Also you can still change at any time during the lease extension.
A further bonus to the above is if a WPMS customer you get £7.25 per week refunded during the lease extension period. Otherwise it does give you more time to save for your next car’s advance payment if necessary.
As for contacting dealers and telling them your position, their ‘business accumen’ may be to try to push you towards vehicles they are finding hard to shift etc. Probably better to keep your cards close to your chest on that one. However keep your eyes and ears open and check out the deals sticky on this forum.

AnonymousThanks for the advice BigDave.
I have already done the extension to the lease for 2 years. They didn’t even ask about the mileage. Just wanted to know my reason for extending…. I was tempted to tell them what I thought of the current range of vehicles, but went for the fact I had paid quite a high AP instead.

simplemanI have to say im in the same boat. I also have the VRS manual petrol and i love it. It was due back in October but they have just extended it for another 6 months. There is nothing to match it on the scheme , it suits my every need. I will ask how much they want for it in a few months time, maybe i can buy it. I am also looking out for the Skoda Octavia 245 in local garages, Just that bit better than the one i have now. Yes there are many cars on the scheme i could get but i still enjoy driving and i love this car.
July 28, 2020 at 2:57 pm #120598That is the big problem for petrolheads like me and others in that the range on the scheme offers very little for us. I can see a lot of people going down this route.

brian hindmarchLike you I have just extended the lease on my Skoda Superb Saloon 2.0 tsi 220HP as there is nothing at the moment I fancy or is suitable for me.
It has massive amounts of room and a huge boot with a hoist fitted for my electric wheelchair.
July 28, 2020 at 9:35 pm #120622The latest information I got from Motability – admittedly just before the lockdown – was:
Any customer can extend the lease of any three-year-car now by up to two years and irrespective of AP.
The Good condition bonus increases too.
£600 after three years.
£700 after four years.
£900 after five years. After five years, no dice unless the replacement vehicle has been ordered.
If one decides to terminate a lease extension, the GCB is paid out on whole years only.
A quick search of the Motability web shows different information.
I would call and get MOp to email the options.

Menorca MikeSmallcar is my mileage ok I thought car had to have low mileage ? Thankyou for your help
July 29, 2020 at 7:41 am #120629People on here say that mileage doesn’t seem to matter any more, but a check with Motability wouldn’t go amiss.

July 29, 2020 at 7:45 am #120631Motability:-
“Keeping your Motability Scheme car for longer
In certain circumstances you may be able to extend the lease on your current car. If you think you might be eligible for a lease extension, please make a note of your mileage and call our Customer Services team on 0300 456 4566 or complete the Request a lease extension form . We can only arrange a lease extension in the final three months of your agreement so you should wait until this time to contact us.”July 29, 2020 at 7:49 am #120632Can’t find posts but some posters have got extensions with higher mileages. You may want to start new thread to find out?

AnonymousI got my 2 year extension with no questions asked about mileage. I’m currently at just under 20,000. The phone call took about 5 mins.
As for the current range, lets hope RSA agree to raise the bhp limits very soon so we can get some of our current cars back on the scheme.

JamieSadly since they changed the rules the maximum HP output is now 200hp so you must of ordered just in Time to squeeze that order in! I was originally looking at that then the changes come in 3months before I was due to upgrade, so now I got one of the most potent cars available on the scheme, I’m also like you and love my cars so went for the seat leon fr sport thats 190hp and 0-62 in 7.2 secs if you leave it to itself or if you turn traction control off and launch it ive recorded a 6.7 secs from it ?
