So i’m having a chuckle with the Mrs just now as we debate the Jeep Renegade.

There is something about the Fiat 500 in a party dress that keeps drawing my attention back to it.

Is it bold?, is it quirky?, or as the Mrs tells me, is it “just bloody ugly with a square arse”

Of course the Mrs loves the XC40, so this naturally taints her view on everything else.

I think, the spec and colour combination chosen on the car makes a huge difference to its appeal, albeit we all like different things.

The Limited spec shown here in the very smart metallic grey certainly caught my attention :

i liked the renegade and the compass i tested esp the ltd spec as it has a choice of leather colours,i like the white/grey and thats the option ive gone for in the countryman.

the only thing that stopped me going further with the jeep was that the nearest dealers are 40 miles away and the derby one didnt impress me when i visited.

it all depends on how much tech you want, compared to some jeep are a bit behind the times, but as all i want is satnav really and comfy seats that are easy to get in and out of it ticked my boxes. i turn my phone off in the car and my music is on a usb so i dont even need bluetooth really.

the cabin is airy and spaceous and i found it easy to get in and out. i dont like sunroofs so it suited me but for those that like them they are an extra.

Who knows, whilst we are in no rush to commit to the next car, I may just convince the Mrs to have a spin over to the Jeep dealer. Checking them out is easy enough, and she may just jump at the chance to tell me its bloody ugly in the flesh ?

            Taken from “Whatcar” review:

However, despite being safe and well equipped, the Renegade has somewhat of an Achilles heel: reliability. In our most recent survey, the Renegade attracted a one-star rating, finishing 13th out of 14 cars in its class. In fact, the only one that performed worse was the Fiat 500X, the car that the Renegade is based on.

Jesus, hardly a good advert eh?

Must admit, I do like them and they are well equipped, just couldn’t risk the unreliability.  even though we don’t own them or have to pay repairs, it’s the inconvenience of potentially loads of visits to the dealer.

Not a big fan of those cars but always had a soft spot for the Jeep Wrangler though , don’t see too many on the roads , but there’s something about the way they look that I like ??

Ugliest car on the road and underpowered.

I had one as a courtesy car a few weeks ago, it was the 1.0 turbo in limited spec. I must say I was quite impressed with how it drove and the amount of tech it had. It wasn’t fast but had enough power and felt adequate, plus the heated steering wheel and seat were nice too! Go drive one you may be pleasantly surprised, I know I was.

I think the multiple bad reviews on reliability that i’ve read today have poured water on this one.

A friend got one as a hire car for work, it broke down on the way to his conference, twice during the 2 days he was down there so the hire Co swapped it out with another in a different colour that literally blew up on his way home and he had to wait 5 hours to be recovered home, not the best advertisement really!
