Hi All 🙂
Just wondered if anyone had any info the Jaguar I-Pace?
Friend is thinking of going electric and swapping his diesel E-Pace for one. Any views on it?, things to avoid etc?
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

I take it access the major fire recall ?
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
April 7, 2026 at 6:25 pm #351183Apparently due to the issues many insurance companies won’t cover them and those that do charge a high premium.

April 7, 2026 at 7:47 pm #351188The car to drive is great and good mix of touch screens and physical buttons but
been plagued with 12v issues, other electric issues and a recall on the main battery with risk of fire.
the recall does not fix anything just limits the amount of battery that can be used. This lowers the mileage you get on a full charge. I do not believe there has been a single fire and it’s just covering what may happen but the drop in mileage would make me walk away.
even with the charging problems seen on the Kia ev6 so glad I went for it over the ipaceApril 7, 2026 at 8:56 pm #351191WOWSERS!!!!
Whats the AP?
April 7, 2026 at 9:18 pm #351192I-Pace had a facelift (circa 73 plates). I wouldn’t touch the old one as all the above are correct – LG batteries until 2021 were of a high risk. 12v issues – improved with software upgrades, but still happen from time to time. But I have one replaced last year and one to be replaced this week on my Skoda Enyaq 85x.
Insurance – I think post 71 plates will be more palatable.
That said, the biggest issue with I Pace like with any car with non existent manufacturer is lack of spare parts and software fixes. Apart of that it is a beauty. Especially in red below are two images of before and after the facelift

April 10, 2026 at 5:49 am #351719Surely it’s not on the scheme I think he’s talking like hypothetically as in some sort of pcp deal!
April 10, 2026 at 2:26 pm #352979Nothing to do with Motability, he’s buying. He likes his current E-Pace but most of his trips are now running back and forth to work (under 4 miles each way) 6 days a week so full electric would save him a fair amount in fuel costs.
Went to have alook at one a couple of days ago, lower trim level so not impressed, they do have one in a similar trim level but couldn’t say when it would be available for him to have a look at.
Found another two about 20 miles away, one main dealer, 44,000 on it with a 2 year warranty and some free charging thrown in, another slightly older but only 36,000 on it. I may go look at them with him this weekend.
He has a garage so is looking at fitting a longish cable through his garden into the back of it with a commando socket for charging. Our council won’t let him fit a Kerbocharge gully, the pilot scheme ended in 2024 and it’s now controlled by Reform, they aren’t interested in doing anything about electric charging now 🙁

April 10, 2026 at 3:04 pm #352980What trim and year your friend is after? Personally as the price difference nowadays is very low, I would be looking into HSE or Sport.
I liked the Sport due to its air suspension, which is comfortable for my dad to get in and out: once parked, you click the button and the car raises a bit. Not a huge difference, but comfortable enough for him.

It’s a dedicated EV forum and has sections for most cars. If there’s a common theme running for the ipace, it’ll be there.

Does he have off street parking?
A 32A interlocked commando socket (BS4343) would be fine as an EV charger however, it would require its own circuit.
If his electrical installation is TN-C-S / PME where the DNO’s protective earth is combined with the incoming neutral, he will have to have adequate protection from PEN faults, either by:
1- 0PEN protective device
2- Making the circuit TT, with an earth electrode with an RA below 200 Ohms
A Type B or Type F 30mA RCD with 40A MCB or 40A 30mA RCBO
Type 2 Surge protection device
6mm2 or 10mm2 SWA depending on the supply cable run.
Failure to comply could result in the car becoming live!
He could have something like this fitted to supply the Commando, if his system is TN-C-S / PME
