I love the idea of never going to a petrol station again and always having car full of fuel ready to go at home. My wife has, not so much range anxiety but charger anxiety. are there enough out there, will they work, will there be a queue.

Will you consider going EV if there is a suitable car on the scheme available?

What I’m saying is, it’s gunna last for 3 years regardless of how you charge it, why worry about something that’s out of your control?

Because you may be loosing 8% of your battery each year and you will be charging more and more often in year three!

most of the batteries have a 8yr 100,000 gurantee. means they would have a problem.

I sugested drive and enjoy. you son learn that if you fast you will lose miles, i had loads of times where gom said 22 left coming over M62 from manchester get to huddersfield 30 was fun at 0 to never stopped.

its something we worry about as the small batteries  were very short . Drive and enjoy the next three tyears, you will enjoy it i did

If you are thinking about going EV, you may be pleasantly surprised that there are over 18,000 charge locations in the UK.

Check out Zap Map for more information and have a dig around it to see charge locations near you or on a trip.

There is a problem for those without the ability to charge at home. But some folk here already manage. It would be interesting to hear how they are getting along and managing.

Not visiting a stinking petrol station is one of the main reasons for getting an EV for me. Is that something that would appeal to you?

The sheltered complex where i live doesn’t have enough parking spaces available for residents that have cars and there’s zero chance of charging points being installed anytime soon – or ever. I guess i’ll have to get the bus when petrol vehicles are outlawed in 2030. If i could charge at home i’d definitely consider the Kona though.

That’s a real shame. Do you have a car to park there now @Graeme? I think someone else here had a similar situation. I would start making formal enquiries and try to beat the rush.

Hi DumfriesDik, yes i do have a car but i can rarely find a parking bay in the dedicated car park for the sheltered block where i live.

                      21 self contained flats.

8 dedicated parking bays – two of which are for blue badge holders.

Approx 11 or 12 residents with cars – mostly blue badge holders.

No space for extra bays due to being hemmed in on all sides by houses or retail outlets or factories.

Its a lottery every day to see if there’s an empty parking bay – mostly there’s never any free bays)

How are the government going to circumvent the problem of people living in blocks of flats or sheltered projects where there is no possibility for charging points? there must be many 1000’s of elderly or disabled folks living in such places(me included) that will surely be worried about the proposed outlawing of petrol cars in 2030.

Graeme can I point out that petrol powered cars are NOT going to be outlawed in 2030 so please don’t worry about that or continue to spread negatives….. what is going is cars powered ONLY by petrol.

This means that hybrid and plug in hybrids will still be sold, see for example Toyota and the Yaris, Auris, CHR etc they will have an electric component to the drive train to reduce emissions.

Gilders & X… Rapid charging is not ideal for battery life but its not going to kill them either…. same as buying a diesel but only driving a few miles each day to the shops isn’t great or a petrol and ragging it up and down the motorway at 80/90 every day.

Gilders yes you can have the heater on while charging, done it plenty of times myself. Of course you should turn the car fully off before starting and ending the charge but during it you can have everything on… heating, radio, seats, lights etc ?

Probably worth pointing out that those go 5 years after in 2035.

Rapid charging generally is completely fine in regards to battery degradation, it still keeps it in expected levels. What is actually proper bad for batteries is discharging them as far as you can and then charge them back up to 100%. You should really only charge it to 100% if you need the range, and keep it to 80% otherwise.

The “well i don’t give a damn lolZ not my car after three years, not my problem” attitude stinks.

Where have all the decent EV gone from the scheme!!

I do look in on the forum from time to time but not been on for a few months but as its getting closer to my renewal I thought I’d take a look, not much on especially bigger EVs. the last time I was on here id3 was on the scheme and I was hoping id4 would be on by now, not only is it not but the id3 has gone.

This still to do with the chip shortage or is something else going on?

                            Thanks
