Is it worth asking about a car in stock at another dealership?

      Hello,

My order recently got delayed from November to March. I was just having a looking at the manufacturers website and the car I ordered, same spec and colour has just arrived at another dealership about 100 miles away under the ‘See Available Stock’ option. Is it worth speaking to my dealer about this or should I just wait until March? I have a car on the scheme so it’s not a massive issue but it was quite frustrating to see such a significant jump in dates.

      Thanks

Why not phone the other dealer?  Unlikely he’ll sell it to Motability as there’s no real profit to be made, but you never know.

It’s highly unlikely you’ll be successful but it costs nothing to ask.

I got £3500 off my last AP because the dealer was desperate to hit a quarterly quota, you never know ?

If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

Its definately worth asking if it is still available (could be sold and not took off stock list), then ask  if they would let you have it on motability,

You stand a better chance if they haven’t met targets with it coming to the end of the month.

Check with the dealer if it has any registered owners, such as the dealer. I enquired with Motability about taking stock cars which were ex demo with little to no mileage, but was told that Motability had to be the the first registered owners of the vehicle. When questioned, they said it was to maximise the resale value at the end of the lease as cars with only one previous owner would be worth more than those with two previous owners.

What car have you got on order?

The reason that Motability won’t allow us to have pre registered cars is VAT. Motability have a block VAT exemption, but this only applies to cars at the point of registration. As this wouldn’t apply to any car that has already been registered, even a 1 day old car would cost them 20% more than a brand new one. The pricing model for AP’s assumes 20% VAT exemption, hence why we can only ever get brand new cars.

As for the OP’s original question, there is no reason why a new unregistered car that is already in stock can’t be ‘sold’ to a Motability customer but, as others have said, a dealer is much more likely to want to sell it to a private customer as it’s far more profitable, so it’s highly unlikely. Never any harm in asking though, as if it’s been sitting around for a while and registering it will trigger a volume bonus, they might just consider it. One or two forum members have achieved this in the past. This would have to be an arrangement direct with the dealer that has the car though, not the dealer that you’ve ordered from (if different).

It was also alot easier a couple or so years back when there was no chip shortatage and cars were plentiful.

However you will never know unless you ask. A bonus is its the end of the month and Christmas is upon us. Also the mad rush for the new reg is over. Ring you may get lucky.

It is worth trying to find if there is a dealer that may have a cancelled order come in i have tried it but you may have to travel a fair few miles if you re lucky.

Be aware the car you have on order will have a £600 good condition bonus, if you cancel and reorder elsewhere it will be reduced to £250.
