So I’m off to Turkey in May and have been looking at travel insurance but because of my condition affecting ny breathing ever so slightly my insurance for a week is ridiculous quotes of £120 plus! I don’t use walking aids I don’t need help eating dressing etc, only thing I have in a cpap machine at night while sleeping. Any recommendations for people with similar conditions would be extremely helpful!

          I use insureandescape.co.uk

          https://www.insureandescape.co.uk/

I’m an amputee + cervical myelopothy and they were very competitively priced.

          No obligation quotes on website

I have used Staysure several times (I have MS – use wheelchair/scooters) and have always found them amongst the most competitive of the insurance sites for us with pre-existing conditions.

I got a range of quotes via the Martin Lewis site, cheapest for me (Annual worldwide miulti trip) was £179.82 from Admiral.

I find there’s very little difference between single trip and annual multi trip cover.  One other thing I found, adding my kids to my policy worked out more expensive than getting them their own policies.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

                Thats mega cheap at 120.

My quote was £846 for a week in Greece.

I tried several others including meerkat and they were similar.

I just find it soo frustrating that it costs soo bloody much! The only way my condition affects my breathing is I use a cpap at night due to co2 levels rising and wake up groggy and sometimes a headache but generally my breathing is fine when out and about. But yet I went to Poland for 5nights last May and it was £54 ?‍♂️

I tried to see about multiple cover and no one would touch me ?.

Garry I looked at that website but I can’t see anywhere where you can declare your conditions?

Just to add my tuppence worth to the conversation, it is not the cost of the policy that should be paramount, but how easy, prompt and helpful they are if you need to make a claim – particularly for accident/illness/hospitalisation whilst abroad.

Having had the need to call on travel insurance twice over recent years, I found two companies to be chalk & cheese.

With a simple holiday cancellation claim due to developing Covid the day before travel (despite the Admiral policy stating they cover this) it took over a year to settle – in the end I just settled for what they were offering which wasn’t the full amount it should have been.  Despite sending in all the evidence requested, they stalled and changed their minds (and the policy terms) at every stage. They wouldn’t accept an NHS PCR test certificate – they wanted a private one.  Then wanted a second confirmatory PCR. Then wanted a GP letter. Then a hospital letter  (I had no need to attend hospital). For some obscure reason they even wanted photographs of my baggage with the airline tags on! I dread to think what the service would have been like in a life-threatening ongoing emergency abroad.

On the other hand, whilst in the USA last year,  I developed acute appendicitis requiring its removal in an emergency operation, Staysure made the process simple. One quick phone call to get the ball rolling was all it took. They then dealt directly with the hospital and other agencies direct, including fully paying the bills for the hospital stay, surgeon, operation, ambulance etc. They paid for the extra hotel accommodation until I was fit to fly home and my return ticket to UK in business class (as per my original itinerary) etc. They later sent me a completed claim form to sign and return. That was it – all sorted.

The Admiral policy was shall we say, at the cheaper end and the Staysure one quite a bit more expensive.

The moral of this tale being that you get what you pay for – it shouldn’t be based on policy price, but what the service is like when you really need them. There are reviews out there on t’interweb on how good the companies are when you need them!

I had to claim from Admiral when I broke my hand in October, it was only €902 but they were very fast in settling it.  Of course I lost my excess (£150) so next policy I’ll pay a bit more and get a smaller excess just in case!.

I had issues getting worldwide annual insurance, staysure declined, all others I tried were also ridiculous.

In theend I am niw insured with one of my banks, Barclays, at a cost if £14 per month, but covers me, the wife and, so long as he us at university, my son.

That is true dave but it’s being able to afford it ? the decent policy’s are the ones that are over half the cost of the actual holiday! And when fingers crossed the chances of needing to use it are low it seems rather excessive! My condition doesn’t stop me walking, going out for the day, breathing(generally) eating etc, the main way my condition affects me are my muscles and joints get tried/achy easy and at night my co2 levels rise due to weak diaphragm muscles. Yet on about my condition I take away the breathing side of it… I get quotes of £20 ?
