Well arrived at the dealer tonight for the third time and guess what ? yep someone had done a runner with the demo vehicle AGAIN!!

So having kicked off big style they allowed me to test drive a car that was in the sold bay which was an Ioniq 6 Ultimate in digital byte blue with digital side mirrors and boy am i glad they did, so here is my view on the car, the colour and the mirrors.

      Car:

What a beautiful car it is, so smooth and quiet on the road. The screens are pin sharp and so are the graphics, even the numbers on the climate controls are razor edge sharp. The seats are very comfortable with loads of adjustment and the same for the steering wheel. I was in and under way in total comfort within 10 mins which is a first for me as im usually fiddling with the seat for half an hour. One thing i did notice straight away is just how large it is lol, the rear seems miles away when looking back but the all round camera and sensors make it a dream to park, particularly like the split view of the wheels to stop you kerbing them. I really could not find any fault with the car at all, and coming from a 3 year life with an EV which i thought was quiet BTW i was shocked at just how much more quiet the Ioniq was compared to the soul, especially road noise which is almost non existent in the Hyundai.

      Colour:

Glad i saw it in real life, i thought from the description and from pictures it was a pearlescent paint but its not, just a flat shade of blue and in dark dull light not a very good one at that. A very odd looking colour in reality and i was dead set on it from seeing pictures on the net and forums but in reality it looks nothing like that. so i immediately switched back to my original choice of ultimate red with light grey interior. BTW the manager of the dealers had been told that the byte blue colour is been discontinued along with the dark green for some reason, not sure if thats true but i see no reason for him to lie as i was ordering it in red anyway.

      Mirrors:

All i can say is test drive a car fitted with them before adding them, i personally thought they were horrendous to use and really glad i saw them first. The images are clear but far to small in my opinion and the field of view is much narrower than a traditional mirror. All the traffic on the motorway seemed crammed into 2 tiny screens which for me was just no no. The passenger screen is just at the right viewing angle but the driver screen for me seems too acute, almost like its facing the passenger rather than the driver. Think long and hard before adding them if you order, thats all i can say.

All in all very happy and expecting delivery of my ultimate ioniq 6 in ultimate red around FEB, MAR time.

If anyone has any questions feel free to fire away.

It’s good to read such a positive review Stuart. You share my view on the digital camera mirrors, and I can’t imagine anyone paying £995 for them.

As for the colour I agree that there are a couple of flat unimpressive ones. Red will certainly stand out. I’m not as brave as you and want to be a bit more low key visually (lol) so I will order black pearl if the 6 is still on the scheme at the same AP on the 12th December.

I’m not going to get too excited yet after the recent Enyaq debacle and other cars disappearing without notice, even though my order date is now only 27 days away.

Fingers crossed for you POPs but i really cannot see it going anywhere this quarter, and who knows it may even drop in Jan but i wouldn`t take that chance lol.

Think there will be a lot of people regretting those mirrors without seeing them first, so glad i did otherwise i would have been gutted on delivery day.

            Good review Stuart 🙂

I’d be happy to just look at one in the flesh without having a 90 mile round trip. The other option would be order blind. For me it would be the black or greeny colour Hyundai seem to like, as my Tucson is Amazon grey (green/grey depending on light)

Thanks for the excellent review Stuart, I am even more looking forward to getting my I6 Ultimate, also in Ultimate Metalic Red with the two tone light grey interior, although the most important thing is that we all get the colour that most suits our personal likes and needs.
