Totally different kind of theft, here they are using a knock-off gameboy console which rolls the key codes and unlocks the car in seconds, they then disable bluelink via the sos  button in the car (pull it out, short or cut the two wires) to prevent you from finding your car and drive off.

No key or cloning required, so rfid pouches etc useless. They just select the car model on the gameboy screen and press start, a few seconds later it unlocks and will start as it thinks the gameboy is the valid key.

Company selling the gameboys with the software preloaded on EBay for £15000.  Cheap after a very simple theft or two of your £50k motor. All Kia/Hyundai are vulnerable to the gameboy, but so far they have been after the Ionia 5 either for parts or overseas shipping.

There is an article in the MyLondon news about it and a long thread with videos on Speak EV. It’s certainly put me off from getting another Kia or Hyundai until they manage to fix this.

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

I know that steering wheel (stoplock) style locks are only a deterrent to unprofessional opportunists, but does anybody have any experience or have read any police, AA or someone like that, reviews on the 5 digit code type, as I have a key type at the moment but the key is attached to my keyring and my PA’s need the keys for the door at the same time as me needing it for the steering wheel lock, so a digit one would be easier. I would need to check that any was compatible with my next steering wheel.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            The top one is probably the full steering wheel cover but it would not work with a steering wheel knob and is too big to store in the car, I feel.

As you say, they are only a deterent but, better than nothing. As for steering wheel locks Disklok are one of the better ones however they are key operated and come with 3 keys.

Most of the well known brands such as stoplock are security key operated and come with at least a pair of keys, which would be enough for your needs!

Thanks keso for your help, but I don’t think the Disklock would not work with my steering wheel knob frame and is too large to store in my car, IMO.

Me neitherTBH. Even a splashing out £40 on a new stoplock to get more than one key isn’t the end of the world or cheaper still getting another one cut 🙂
