Following on from @Gee paying £20+ for two fish and chips I thought we could share takeaway prices in our areas.
In my local chip shop a “large” fish and chips is 2 fish with chips and costs just under £10 a small fish and chips is £7+.
In my area any meal with chips is called a “supper” so a fish supper is fish and chips, a hamburger supper is burger and chips etc.
If you want your fish breaded its a “special” fish supper, this only applies to the west of Scotland.
Chinese, we get 2No. chicken satay off the skewer with boiled rice, salt and chilli chips, 1 portion and 1 portion of prawn crackers – cost £21.
Indian- meal deal for one, does both of us, veg pakora, South Indian garlic chilli chicken, fried rice, spice onions and two popadoms and plain naan bread, cost £14:50.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.

Brydo here is the count also from the West of Scotland.
Large Special (two breaded fish) super £9.70 (recommended).
Small battered (one fish) fish super £5.30. small breaded super £5.80.
2x Satay chicken, off skewer with boiled rice, 1 portion of chilli chips, free prawn crackers. Cost £24.90. (£5.50 for chilli chips)
Indian meal deal for 1, 2 poppadoms and spiced onions, veg pakora, south Indian garlic chicken, 1 nan. £12.99 plus 1 egg fried rice £4.50 total £17.49
That is the count from the West of Scotland complete, thank you and may I say you have done a wonderful job Brydo (as per Eurovision)
One last thing, it always disappoints me when I go to Blackpool that I cannot get a special fish done in breadcrumbs (I never have chips). Can anyone not from the West of Scotland tell us if they have tried a special fish done in breadcrumbs and what they thought of it.
November 26, 2023 at 4:23 pm #250080My favourite from when I was a child visiting Blackpool was a steak pudding and chips.

Chinese around here, Northwest England: special (mixed meat) chow Mein, special (mixed meat) fried rice, salt and chilli chicken wings, chips, carton of curry sauce and free prawn crackers was £28.50 on Friday just gone.
Indian: chicken vindaloo, chicken Jalfreze, onion bhajis, meat samosas, 2 pilau rice, chips is £27.80
My current very unhealthy guilty pleasure is a mixed kebab on a large garlic naan bread, chargrilled chicken tikka, chargrilled lamb tikka, minced lamb Sheek kebab, donner meat with salad and chilli sauce. £8.50. The Indian takeaways near us are very reasonable due to the competition, there must be 30 of them within 2 miles.

Not my favourite but I don’t mind the Donner meat if it’s lamb, too many now are a mix of chicken beef and lamb. I don’t like to think which parts of those meats go into it ?.
November 26, 2023 at 9:43 pm #250111You wouldn’t want to eat haggis then, which I love lol

My mum was a Glaswegian, my grandad was a ship builder on the Clyde during the war, my nan was from a village on the shores of Loch Ness, I’ve eaten lots of haggis and love it. Though I’ve not had it for a few years. Down in England there’s not many places sell it, I seem to remember Farmfoods doing a frozen one. Burns night is coming up so I’ll look out for some.

I can only get plaice with breadcrumbs from my part of Wales. Nip over the border to my home land (Newcastle u Lyme) I can get cod in breadcrumbs weird 🙂
P.S When I asked in my local chip shop, they just looked at me with a dull expression.

What can i tell you @Brydo – i’m paying Surrey prices. Daylight robbery!
I took the wife on holiday to Padstow last summer and Rick Stein’s fish supper prices were comparable to Reigate prices. Where Surrey won though was that they don’t charge extra for salt n’ vinegar.
Btw @Brydo very good topic! (i should’ve thought of that lol!)
November 27, 2023 at 7:39 pm #250177@Gee I gave you every opportunity to make it your own lol. If your not fast your last ??.If you keep setting them up mate I will put them in print ????

I know haddock is very popular in Yorkshire, I find the taste of haddock a bit too fishy. I also hate it when they leave the skin on, it’s just lazy, does nothing for the flavour.
November 27, 2023 at 9:44 pm #250193@Jojoe it’s haddock not a patch on Cod IMO but there’s no choice where I live.
