Happy sunday to all! You helped us last quarter after we were questioning if we could get a EV without having the home charger as we cannot have one fitted.

So now due to our circumstances these 2 car or van are our options (3 kids, 2 been teens and taller than me! and an autism assistance dog) as we need space!!

Currently in the bmw gran tourer skoda would be almost a swop for the space we have now and thats fine, or do we risk it and give the vauxhalk van a go we have read and know the range is crap compared to car Ev’s (about 100miles so 80 on the 20% to 80% ratio) which is fine for us using rapid charger top up in 30 to 60 mins and we would have to break our long journeys up any due to the dog so no problem

Our long journeys would only be once or twice a year on holiday breaks, on the daily run (just school runs) we use around 50 miles a week mon to fri so 1 charge to top up 30 mins?

We are thinking we have the time during the week to utilise free charges which means we will save money in the long run so this is even more or a bonus.

Downside is driving a huge van everyday

Any opinions would be welcome as we are fed up of taking about it to each other! Ha!

Aslo we HAVE to make this choice this week as on the 13th my award goes into under the year left so need to order before that!

      Thanks 🙂

Just to add the AP are very similar at :-
        <p style=”text-align: left;”>Vauxhall £3249</p>
        Skoda £3195

And this is the most we have ever paid on an AP so would absolutely be keeping for the 5 years!

But we also know that say we gave the van a go and it did not work for us do you think we would have a valid argument with motability to change early? Say the charging was an issue?

If the Skoda meets your needs, I’d go for that. Limited range and awful performance of Vauxhall do not recommend it. I’ve had two Skoda, Superbs, and while the latter and the Kodiaq are very different beasts, I found the quality, reliability and simple comfort and ease-of-use of the Skoda to be really good.

Speaking generally, for me, it would be the Skoda every time. I had an Octavia, the build, reliability was top notch.

if you can get away with the kodiac then it’ll be better to drive.

Current Car: Hyundai Kona Premium EV...2 way 40kg hoist
Last Car: Toyota C-HR Excel Hybrid...4 way 80kg hoist

The Kodiaq is the much better car by far.

Having had the Kodiaq for 3 years, I’d highly recommend it, especially in the SE L range.  It’s an absolutely superb vehicle with one of the largest boots in the large SUV range, 2065lts.  And the most comfortable ride I’ve experienced.

I’m not sure if Euro Skoda/Seat at Crawley are still offering discount on AP’s but it might be worth calling.

The Vivaro is a totally different vehicle We ordered it as it takes chair hoist 4 large dogs Coleman cooler and a tv well maybe not tv.
sadly it didn’t arrive so we have Peugeot traveller it’s the same car really. Range is short 145 but it’s massive and we need that if you don’t need it you will regret it, because you could have had a conventional car in the Skoda, if you do need it however you will never regret it, as finally it meets all the needs. A word of warning delivery is a nightmare so test drive it and then be patient but Vauxhall will be in no hurry to deliver. As for range we have completed our first month at 1400 miles costing just under £15 when we go on holiday which accounts for about 4% of our year it will be tough as we are going to Devon   But it’s such a small inconvenience how many days a year do you need more than 140 miles.

Just to say, if you don’t need a high seat, the car I currently have is great.

                        Skoda Superb estate.

even with the 1.5tsi and DSG gearbox, it’s very quick.

loaded up with the lad and all his university stuff and a roof box it averaged 42.5mpg on a mostly 137 miles trip up the motorway at normal speed.

very quiet and well specified car

Thank you so much everyone, hubby is book to test drive the skoda at 1pm today.

Seems to be the way to go just the choice between high spec and petrol or lower spec and diesel as both the same cost

Given your low weekly mileage the petrol would be hardly any dearer to fuel and the extra toys make it a more pleasant place to be…

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
