Hey this will be my 4th mobility car
1 hyundai ix35
2 bmw x1
3vw golf line
But I really am struggling what to go for
I like the new mg hs [but it’s a mg],the volvo xc40 black edition [but its a bit dated] , the kgm torress [ but doni want to spend 4k on a ssangyoung] tiguain allspice [ again feels so dated] new tiguain [ I like the look but I test drove it and just didn’t like it ]
I love the golf but the wee man’s new chair doesn’t go in the boot so I need suv or estate,
Really looking for ideas or feed back

but nothing beats your own test drive, after you decide what your requirements and budget are.
You will get lots of differing opinions…
My 2 car shortlist for an order next month is the Nissan Qashqai and the Volvo XC40 and I’m leaning towards the latter.
Worth a look at the newly facelifted Hyundai Tucson, it a milliom miles away from the ix35 you had lol.
The new MG HS is nice and comes with all extra’s included like 360 camera’s, similar to the Tucson but, petrol only can be thirsy. Choosing a reliable dealer is important!

I’m in an MG HS phev now and love it. So much so that I went to see what the ap was and unfortunately the phev is gone. It’s has a few niggles which I’m sure I could fix myself, but as it’s a hire car I can’t be … Going through menus etc. But it’s the most comfortable car I’ve been in in a long time. So far I’ve done about 300 miles mixed driving ant it’s 70.01 mpg and has a lot of kit. It also looks well outside and inside and has some nice premium feel materials inside. But as Kezo says the petrol version maybe thirsty.
Again the Tucson and austral are nice looking motors and have decent kit.

See I never gave the kuga or tuscan a thought, those you tube guys are brilliant, I’m really thinking towards the mghs now because of the kit and the real low ap, all the reviews rave about the mpg as well

As always check what variant they are reviewing compared to what variants are available on the scheme.
I decided to take the HS for a horse down the motorway for a 110 round mile trip to try and get an even more accurate mpg. Drove at 78mph and car is now saying 58.9 mpg which is still impressive. One thing I love is the drive selector sits nicely in front of the arm rest. A slight touch forward and you’re in neutral and that car just rolls and rolls. Wee flick back and it’s in drive again and you can’t feel any change going between them. It just keeps moving. Also the move from electric to engine is seamless.
It’s a cracking car and so comfortable. One big problem is that the rear view mirror sits really low and is a nuisance as it blocks so much of the view. Steering a bit heavy? Maybe not as I think I’m just used to the really light steering on the Kona and e3008.
No Kezo but it has only done 1.5k miles but I went and looked at it earlier. Very impressive, lovely looking inside and out. Has similar very comfortable seats and sticks with the soft touch materials. It will be interesting to see what the phev ap will be. If it came in at 2k or under I would probably have it over the £3k Tucson. Purely so I can keep 1k as I think they would both be great cars.
The Austral really does look very nice but what I’ve seen doesn’t constitute a test drive, It’s definitely worth a look though as is the Tuscon, the Qashqai and the HS. I’ve had an MG for 3 years and it wasn’t a complete failure like the ‘it’s Chinese’ worry-mongers will let you think. MG are built by the company that built the VAG cars for the Chinese market, they’ve learned a lot about how to build well from Audi and how to build well on a budget from the VW/Skoda cars they built.
IF electric isn’t impossible, the Enyaq will have everything you need space wise and I’ve seen some good offers on the Sportline AWD version.

I went to 2day and saw the tuscan, qashqai and the kuga,
But I’ve ended up going for the mghs trophy, I’ve only done 8k in 3 years so fuel economy wasn’t an issue, and I really don’t want to go electric
And for what you get with the mg for what I did I thought it was a no brainer

@des When you quote your mpg, are you going by what the computer in the car says? I’m sure that you know (but others might not) that with a PHEV the mpg quoted in the car is a nonsense and bears no resemblance to reality, as it takes no account of charging costs. You have to work out a cost per mile (based on petrol used plus all charging costs since the last refuel) and then divide that total pence per mile back into the price of a gallon of petrol to get a true mpg equivalent. As an example, the last time I filled up our PHEV the fuel computer said that mpg since the previous refuel was around 80mpg. In reality, when factoring in charging costs, that drops by 30mpg to 50mpg.

I forget who it is on here but, they speak highly of the HS and are on there 2nd or 3rd.

The 2024 model looks quite nice and reviews say its decently built. It also has a similar size 25kW battery, as the new VW group PHEVS. Go Figure!
