With the apparent reduction in availability of grants …..

Do people think that Grants should introduce a maximum grant available for “unadapted” vehicles and no option to add to it.

Being able to add to it , to me, seems like they have available funds in the first place.

Adaptations for standard vehicles and WAV’s should be fully funded.

What type of adaptions are you referring to? For example,  only once I had to pay for my left foot accelerator some years ago. Now it out of the box – I just need to tick the box and Chapmans will install it, once the vehicle is with the dealership.

On the note of adaptations,  I am right BK and my driving licence obviously restricts me to automatic only,  but someone recently advised that it does not prohibit me from driving with my right foot (whatever left of it). And indeed, I looked into the codes on my licence and it doesn’t require adaptations.

Is it the case or although there’s no indication on the licence,  I must to install the adaptation?

On a second vehicle proper left foot flip flop pedal nowadays costs £750.

Grants are typically only available for those with little or no money to fully fund the AP for a vehicle that suits their needs along with any required adaptions, and/or on means tested benefits. Which means somebody who has the funds, is required to fund a vehicle fit for their needs or adaptions themselves.

Restricting grant funded for unadapted vehicles  would go against the Equality Act 2010. Equally “fit for somebodies needs” falls under this act.E.G some body who is bariatric through illness with no money, where “fit for needs”, sees them placed a small, rather than a sutable car due to a stringent maximum grant, will leave the grants team wide open to the Equality Act. This is just one of many examples.

I don’t mean to be harsh, but yet again you are again singling out disabilities that suits, which in itself goes against the Equality Act, which I suggest you read in full!

We are not longer in the dark ages and put simply, the law defines a disability as:

Having a ‘physical or mental impairment’ and ‘has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities’
