New electric car charger revealed alongside announcement that UK will ban the sale of all new non-zero-emission HGVs by 2040

In addition to providing a greater choice of charging infrastructure for local authorities and others, it’s hoped the chargers will become an a piece of iconic British street furniture that will “raise awareness and generate excitement” around EVs, as the DfT pledges to build “one of the most convenient, affordable and reliable charging networks in the world”.

The head of the IEA, Fatih Birol, famously said , “If you think you can save the climate with electric cars, you’re completely wrong.” China is the world’s biggest EV manufacturer — an industrial strategy designed to reduce its dependency on gasoline made from foreign oil. But around 60 per cent of its power is generated by burning dirty coal, which means that EVs driven in China are “coal” cars that contribute to the emissions problem more than gasoline cars.

There a fast charger in my local Lidl, totally inaccessible for wheelchair users. The parking bay is very narrow with no way of fully opening the car door.
