Well we have had the Ford Focus 1.5 diesel Active-x Estate(cant get them anymore) a year and to be fair it’s been a good solid reliable car, Has all the extras and all still work well, Odd little glitch with parking sensors sat nav drives me up the wall just too slow however seems to have sorted themselves out, Covered Nearly 19,000 miles and mpg showing average 60mpg so can’t moan, Had 2 new tyres on the front and numerous add blue refills, Our local ford dealership have been good with no issue’s and always willing to help and gave courtesy car when it went in for service, Top it up with add blue when it needs it just pop in so overall happy.

It had no work on the service apart from the basics of what it needed for the 1st service which draws me to Motability, Now weather this is true or not I don’t know but the dealer told me Motability have advised to change what drastically needs changing I assume to cut down on costings, When I went back to the dealer this week to ask why the add blue was not topped up at service under 700miles remaining they advised essential items and pictures are now required, So asked with regard brakes pads etc and they will need replacing in a couple of months they would of preferred to change now so it seems Motability weather its true or not have started looking more closely shall we say at what and when items are getting replaced rather than its Motability change it and bill them.

We have 2 more years with this car however personally I think it will be the last, Car choice and AP are the factors as I’m sure many will be looking more closely and coupled with daily increases in shopping/utilities and the 10.1% increase they are going to get against what you have already paid it does raise more questions and answers as to the viability of having the car.

I’m grateful for the car however its at a cost as per everything in life you have to take stock and  evaluate and prioritise.

        HI sikez

When my car was serviced and MOT’ed last year there was a note on the invoice say the front pads were down to 3mm along with a note saying Motability had declined the offer to renew them. They also put a note to have them rechecked at 4 months.

I only view the invoice out of curiosity with there being no cost on our part and had I not read it would have been none the wiser to it as the invoice could of just stayed folded up in its pouch in the service manual.

I was not told personally about having the pads checked 4 months later but my thinking is that most modern cars have sensors for brake pad ware so should they become that worn I’d get a warning light or end of the day the good old fashion way when you hear the growling sound of metal on metal.

As my mileage has been lower than normal the past few years I let it go until this years service and MOT and the dealer failed the car for having below minimum brake pad ware so of course they were renewed.

Cost of those pads were about £450 so that’s a saving for Motability for a year but waiting over a year for a new car to be delivered I assume Motability were hoping my new car would have arrived by now so they’ve spent that money last month on a car that will be sold next month, I hope. ?

Not sure if anything has changed in how Motability work with expenditure on the cars because I often get told I need to do another 500 to a 1,000 miles on my tyres before they can be renewed when I think they look worn-out.

Lets hope that they don’t cut back to much that it causes accidents. The Shite would hit the fans then…

Shocking when you think about it and at some point it will meen another trip for us disabled folk to the dealer to get that work down. I guess that’s one advantage of owning you can decide when is right for you to change the most important items imo on a car, brakes and tyres and what tyres you put on.
