In in a showroom while my car gets fixed and they have a new Dacia Duster and Bigster. I have to say they look like decent motors especially the Bigster. And it’s big. I noticed they share parts with Renault also.

Neither on the scheme and I don’t know how either drive but if the Bigster came on the scheme id expect a decent ap for a very big car.

Dacia have been on a journey with Renault. They seem to represent good value and not the joke they used to be, akin to Skoda I guess.

DacIA = Renault with no thrills.

I remember a few years ago collecting a Dacia from a nurse. When I got into it there was a blanking plate where the radio should have been, I asked did this not come with a radio she said it could have done but it was £30 extra so I told them not to bother.

£30??? – Must have been the top spec one then  :p

Sister-in-law is on her second Duster, no complaints about it at all.

Neighbour 2 doors down from me has one he swears by, unlike his previous Mokka which he mainly swore at! 🙂

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Sister in law has been driving a duster for last 6+ years and step-daughter bought a 19 plate duster a year ago. Both fine and no complaints, kinda like having a new Renault 10 years previous! Basic no frills cost conscious motoring.

They were never low ap on the scheme though (low residuals?) and I think they probably make a better 2nd hand choice rather than new.

Bandit that’s something I thought about after posting. Poor resale price higher ap maybe. Mind aps are all over the place and don’t really make much sense to me.

                    Aren’t they just old Renaults.

They don’t come across as good value on the scheme but if you’re into them, they’re probably a good car to buy on the used market.

Certainly not these days – Dacia use’s much of the running gear seen in modern Renaults. Where they differ is on equipment levels and are typically bare bones.

The Bigstar has a 3 star euro NCAP score. One reason for that it doesn’t have rear occupancy detection, so won’t bing bong at you if put a shopping back on the rear seats, which could actually be a good thing!

Yeah, I think NCAP lost the plot when they decided that all of the nanny systems were needed to get full marks (or , indeed, any marks). I’d be happier if they scored their 5 stars for crash protection and then added an A,B ,C or similar score for “other aids” like auto braking, rear seat detection, seatbelt bongs,  driver attention, speed detection etc. at least then we can look for something you will survive in vs something you’d also survive in, but be bonged at because the airbags have deployed…lol.

Its annoying when your car reads the 5mph supermarket parking speed sign and bongs incessantly at you for doing doughnuts* 6mph in the car park.

                        * Of course, these days, doing doughnuts in the car is more about keeping the jam off my t-shirt….

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
