      Hello!
I was hoping someone can help me with some advice with extending our lease.
As most are aware, not a lot of deals to be had this year and probably for the next year or two in my opinion.

I have BMW X1 and have decided to ask to extend the lease for another 24 months as I feel this is the best option at the moment. I can keep my eyes on each quarter and if something comes up I can go for the deal or hand back at any point in those months.

What I would like to know is what are the reasons I should state for applying to extend the lease. It is up in December but, like most on here, I’ve been looking most of the year in anticipation to order in September if I found a suitable exchange in our budget and needs.
I don’t want to be declined for the extension so can anyone who has successfully extended please advice. Or any advice what to not say! Also what is the process involved with applying.

At this point I’d like to just extend and have a break from all the hassle, hope and disappoint each quarter ?

      Thanks in AP ?

I would just phone Motability Claire and say I can’t find anything suitable to replace it with at a price I can afford.  At the moment it seems many people are doing the same. Unless your mileage is very high. I don’t think you’ll have a problem.

I used the online form for extending my lease, all done without speaking to anyone.

          https://www.motability.co.uk/contact/request-a-lease-extension/

If you have a Motability online account, register one if you haven’t, and you can see your extension in your account but they also back it up through the good old snail mail anyway.

As Wigwam says, just phone them up. I did for my Tiguan (lease expires end of Nov this year) – no hassle. They simply ask the current mileage and are fully aware of the lack of suitable cars at the moment.

Good idea to extend for 2 years, as you can upgrade at any time during that time period.

Don’t know how true it was, but when I said I was looking at the new Allspace, the call handler checked and said it was due to come on scheme during the first half of next year. I will wait with breath baited!!

Extending the lease works well for Motability, 4th and 5th year depreciation is very much smaller and due to shortages residuals are going to stay strong.

                  Great advice and replies.
Thanks guys! I’ll fill out the form this weekend as I have an online account.

                  Have a great weekend!

Claire – maybe you’ve ruled out the facelifted X1, but we’ve just taken delivery of one and got a £500 discount off the AP plus 15% off options, even though the dealer wasn’t advertising any offers (they never do). We also got the car in just under 4 months from order to delivery. It’s a good improvement on the pre 2020 version, in terms of exterior, interior and standard kit. There is an all new model due out next year, but of course there’s no guarantee that it will appear on Motability at launch and we may not be able to get the top spec versions and engines that we can at present. You may have already ruled it out, but we contemplated extending and are now glad that we didn’t, given that things seem to be going from bad to worse.

I would ignore the mileage cap on extension also.

My car had done 20k miles a year and extended no problem.
