Hi everyone, just looking for some help / advice if possible please.

I’m the named driver for my dad’s car, he’s 84 now and doesn’t drive. He cancelled his new petrol car this week, having waited 6 months, after we spotted a few small scratches and a sizeable chip in the bodywork on collection. Not great after he waited so long, but back to the list we go. He is now looking at the EV options, but he has no driveway or parking, so can’t have a charger fitted.

I spoke to Motability on his behalf today and asked if they could fit the charger at my address instead as I have a driveway, but the agent said that was not possible as the charger must be fitted at their customers address. It seems if he goes down the EV route, the only option is to use BP pulse on the go instead.

I fully understand if this is the rule, but I wondered what others on here have experienced and whether Motability may actually look at these things on a case by case basis.

If anyone has any advice or has experienced any flexibility from Motability and had an EV charger installed at a family member’s house instead we’d be delighted to hear from you.

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

Those who lease an ev car from Motability without a driveway or off street parking do get the BP pulse card.

I don’t see this as any different?
where do you live from your dads house?
it sounds like the car would be parked at your house, not the lease.

The car is parked at mine Roger and has been since he started using motability about 7 years ago. I’m only 2 miles away and with ICE cars, it’s obviously never been an issue before, but as my dad wants to try an EV this time, we wanted to understand if a charger could be installed where the car stays overnight. Hope this makes sense.

I would see about fitting a charger at your house and pay for it yourself if you really want a BEV. And to fund it I would speak with the supplying garage of the car. Shake as many trees as you can.
