EU signs a massive trade deal with 4 South American countries. We could do with a bit of that action.

I unserstand from various article’s from EU media, that several countries aren’t happy with the deal and farmers are furious and there’s even concern’s, cows won’t be traceable back to farms they came from in all cases.
I question whether the deal is as good, as EU officials make out and the damage to local farming, which we should all be supporting in europe. Then there’s the matter of the destruction of the Amazon rain forest, which seems to have been overlooked, even though officials say it hasn’t!

December 7, 2024 at 3:50 pm #294657Mercosur deal will also see bilateral arrangements to reduce taxes for companies in Brazil exporting critical raw materials to Europe, which the EU currently has to source from Russia and China. On the face of it, this may sound a good deal but, when you consider China, as a member of BRICS, has invested heavily in Brazil’s critical minining sector and owns most of the important mines, so the reliance on China is still there, as with most of the worlds.
China’s investment in Brazil has significantly grown and broadened, particularly in other area’s as well such a agri and energy.

The press release is very misleading, as it isn’t actually an agreed and signed trade deal, as that can’t happen until all EU states ratify the agreement and France, Poland, Demark and Portugal all object to the deal, with France in particular determined to veto the deal. With EU farmers already planning mass protests, many other countries will begin to doubt just how good an idea the deal is, but Macron will not want to antagonise the unions in France any more than he already has, so will definitely veto the agreement.
It’s just another example of the EU leadership thinking that they can do exactly what they want, no matter what anyone else might think.
