Just started getting signs that the 12v battery is failing.

      Today

First sign radio would not come on for passenger while the car was in Asda carpark.

Second sign car would not lock using hand on handle or with remote key while in B&Q carpark had to leave it unlocked while i collected something.

Anyone know what the third sign is ?

If it continue’s what is the remedy (comments from those that have had first hand experience) is it a visit to dealers, what happens did they replace something or just put the 12v battery on charge.

@MickC I recently had this issue on my Pug 308 GT. Stop start would not work: Radio would not stay on. Shut it’s self down to save power. Key would no longer auto open or lock the doors.

At first it was subtle, but as time went on it became more obvious that the batter was failing.

I reported this to the dealership when second service was due. Peugeot would not accept the battery was failing. So it was put on charge whist being serviced. I was told that it had be sorted.

On collection technision said It was my fault! for not doing enough miles to keep the battry charged! Ummm okay. With in a couple of days it was back to non functioning as before. Despite doing lots of long motorway driving.

Then more faults started to appear. Like ESP/ASR showing up and registering on the app. So I asked for it to be looked at again. Long story short. the car was in for 5 days while further test were done.

Finally the said the battery needs changing. Hurrah I exclaimed. Since then everything works fine.

Had the same on an Octavia, got RAC out and they replaced it with a better one. Had loads of issues with infotainment system.

We had similar symptoms with our previous car. a Seat Tarraco

Ended up ending lease early and got a Hyundai Tucson, which has been a worse car in every way. in hindsight, I wish we’d of extended the lease on the Tarraco.

perhaps if we’d just had the battery changed, it would’ve been fine. oh well

I had same issue with a golf and was only a few months after getting it. Every warning light came on saying this and that system was not available. Nothing about having a low battery at all.

My partner then popped into the supermarket, I stayed in the car, Had a call to make. Had nothing on whatsoever. When she returned car wouldn’t start. Called Rac and they tested the battery and it was faulty.

He put in a bigger one in and never had an issue with it for the rest of the lease. I do believe they putting in small 12v battery’s as a group and this causes issues for many, never mind them just being faulty as did a  3 to 4 hour, 150 mile trip every week back then. Still didn’t have any issues when I stopped doing those long trips and only did local ones for months.

So I’d say call out the rac they’ll put a better battery in it than the dealership will.

I’ve got this currently with my id5. I love the car love love love everything about it but ever since I’ve had it it intermittently tells me the 12 volt battery isn’t charged enough. I’ve researched the forums and checked I’ve got the right optimised battery settings etc but had come to accept that ever more frequently the opening / recognition of the key and the remote access via the app wasn’t working. Until last week after a long journey the car wouldn’t charge overnight and I couldn’t access the car at all . Completely dead. The rac had to force an entry as none of the normal key fob tricks worked. The 12 v battery was completely dead and we hadn’t even been able to access the car to open the bonnet to give it a jump. It’s been with vw a week now ( mainly because the garage hasn’t got round to looking at it with Easter) until I complained. I told them over and over that it’s a 12 volt battery fault and it simply needs replacing. They said it wouldn’t be that ( what to I know disabled female driver huh?) . Guess what ? They rang me yesterday to tell me they’d discovered it was a 12 volt battery failure ( no sh*t) and they’re replacing it under warranty- I can have the car back on Monday.

Yes, my car was having i termite t alarm activations and the tech just charged the 12v battery, and it’s been fine since. I.ll dig out my battery charger if I

                    The warning signs appear again.

Ford Kuga 12 v battery losing charge Ford blamed us, next time it failed called out RAC they replaced the battery, informed us Ford fit poor quality batteries, never happened again.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
