      ‘Tis I…again.

Soo… after a gruelling Friday drive to the local Skoda dealership in the blazing sun with a screechy autistic toddler and a 6ft 5 and a half autistic teenager we eventually found out what I’m sure a number of you more clued up folks already knew…that the Kamiq was a bust 🙁

Whilst there we decided to take a seat in a Karoq as well, just as a ‘Why not?’ Better on the head room, but leg room and hip/shoulder room was a bust.

After also trying a VW T-Roc (shared showroom) my future son in law, who has said every car so far is “fine” even when his head touches the ceiling, exclaimed to his Mother that “they don’t make cars for people as tall as me”

My inner boffin couldn’t have that, so I said “actually they do, we just can’t afford them, I’ll show you” and I went and sat him in a Kodiaq.

Not only did he have acres of space above his bonce but his knees didn’t touch the dashboards (a complete unknown to him before now) He was in his own little world, actually comfortable in a car. Of course his Mum wanted a go, with the car seat and me sat next in the back, plenty of room all round.

So now we’ve all slightly fell in love with the Kodiaq, and if the delivery estimate is good, we will be selling kidneys to afford the 3699 AP to make it ours for the next 3 years. Fingers crossed

Good new, apart from the AP!!  🙂

I know the feeling, I’m just a bit short of 6′ 6″ and my Autistic son is a shorty at 6’4″, but he is, shall we say, “ample” in that he’s almost 5 stone heavier than me 🙁

There are times when he won’t sit in the front so both front and rear space are an issue.  Best fitting car we had was a 2008 Honda CRV, we loved that car!.  We even managed to squeeze into a Jazz for a while when I lost my PIP, I then bought a Yeti, sold that and leased another on a really cheap deal and then had some idiot jump out of an oversized Transit coming towards me doing 40mph which wrote it off, and almost me as well!.

At that time I’d just gotten my PIP back and ordered a Tiguan but along came Covid and no Tiguan delivery!, so ended up in a Seat Ateca (5 seat version of the Kodiak), that was perfectly OK for 3 years then moved over to BEV with the current Skoda Enyaq.  it’s a bit of a squeeze for him but he manages front and back OK.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Yes I gy=uessed the Kamiq would be a no no however, when you see how many can pile in a mini, you never know!

As for large cars, the choice is limited and the more you pay – If you wanted to save £400-500, the new Peugeot 5008 hybrid GT is worth a look, being a similar in size to the Kodiaq. Either way a better predicted delivery speed is key,as it could cost you the £500 saving in MOT work!

            Good luck!

I think you’ve made a wise decision. All too often, people come on here stating what their requirements are, but then subsequently fall in love with a car that clearly doesn’t meet them. 6 months later they are back enquiring about the early termination process!

Although £3,699 is a lot of money, especially on top of the £12,000 sacrificed benefits, the more expensive cars (retail price wise) on the scheme always represent far better value for money. As well as being a decent sized car, the Kodiak gets great reviews. Personally, I like Skoda’s styling in recent years and their cars come in some eye catching colours, so I’d say it’s a good choice all round.

Before ordering, ask are there any at the docks or factory ordered you can put your name to. If not you want to know if they have any allocated order slots now, if not, when will allocated order slots open for them again!

One of the biggest problems, is if the dealer doesn’t have alloacted slots now, they can sit on your order for months untill, they can place a factory order.

Well we spoke to a Skoda dealership today, the guy reckoned he could find two 7 seater Kodiaq SE L’s and that we should be able to get it by beginning of next month. So we chase up the Vauxhall dealership and finally cancel the Frontera order (we were holding on as a safety net but now a new special needs car seat has thrown the back seat room into doubt when we’ve already proven the kodiaq doable with new seat) blind panic waiting for cancellation to go through in time to drive to the Skoda dealership before they shut at 4.30pm to pounce on the offer. We do some googling to learn we apparently can still place an order while the cancellation process is going through. So we load up and head off for the 1hr+ drive. A short while into the drive the Frontera cancellation goes through…HUZZAH! not a wasted trip! We arrive at the dealership 40mins before closing!….to be told the person we spoke has gone home, family emergency, and noone there has the contacts and expertise to locate the cars he did for us to order one “sorry”. So back to the car we trudge just in time for a thunderstorm to kick in and drown us.

                    Our…..luck….sucks

                      good luck  🤞

Not sure if order can be placed untill Frontera canceled, although nothing stopping Skoda from reserving and getting wheels in motion.

You could always ring Moto and ak them to cancel, incase moto rep isn’t it. At least you will know the orders cancelled with Motability straight away!

                        Hope all goes well 🙂

Frontera is already showing as cancelled on Motability website so that bit of it should be fine. Just hope we haven’t missed one of the two the guy found

Bigger than the Kodiaq and similar price to the Skoda

so ended up in a Seat Ateca (5 seat version of the Kodiak)

Just quickly pointing out that the Ateca is not the sister car of the Kodiaq, but the Karoq. The SEAT sister car of the Kodiaq is the Tarraco.

Just correcting this for people who’re looking for a “big” car, the Ateca is a compact/hatchback on stilts (like the Karoq), whereas the Kodiaq/Tarraco are the mid-size SUVs.

Prior: SEAT Ateca Xcellence Lux 1.5 TSI DSG MY19, VW Golf GTE PHEV DSG MY23

Quick update – Order for the Kodiaq seems to have gone through ok. Waiting on the eligibility referral thingy to go though after we passed it. Been quoted delivery date for end of this month if we’re very lucky, next month for ‘definite’. Won’t be counting any egg-laying farm birds until they’re telling me I can come and collect it but…fingers crossed

Didn’t really have a choice in colour as only one that he could find, so it’s white. Which is fine, not really fussed, and the one we sat in at the showroom was white and my fiancée said she really liked it so lucked out about there I think.

Heard from the dealership a day or so again. Our Kodiaq should arrive in the country by end of next week. Have been given VIN number and License plate. If all goes well it looks like we might be hitting collection day early next month, which would be perfect as we have family holiday planned for end of August and we won’t all fit in my clapped out Prius. Have received the lease paperwork through the post from Motability. All seems to be going well!
