Groupe PSA’s luxury arm DS Automobiles has confirmed that it will stop selling petrol and diesel cars by 2025, offering just electric and plug-in hybrid models.

The announcement follows the UK Government’s decision to ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars and vans in 2030, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid permitted until 2035.

DS already offers electrified powertrains on both of its current models. The DS3 Crossback is offered in fully electric E-Tense, alongside PureTech petrol and BlueHDI diesel.

The brand’s larger DS7 Crossback SUV is available with two E-Tense plug-in hybrid engines, as well as petrol and diesel options.

A third model, the DS9 saloon, will join the brand’s line-up next year. It will be powered by the same E-Tense plug-in hybrid petrol engine as the DS 7 Crossback – providing 225PS and a zero-emission range of 25-31 miles.

There will also be a 250PS version with a longer electric range and a range-topping 360PS version with all-wheel-drive.

This commitment to electrification and sustainability has made DS the only premium, multi-energy manufacturer to meet the current 95g/km CO2 average fleet emissions targets set by the European Commission.

Mark Blundell, UK marketing director at DS Automobiles, said: “The ambitious transition to Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicles (ULEVs) by the Government must be met with equally ambitious work from the industry. DS Automobiles has been a pioneering force for electric and plug-in vehicles since the beginning and is in a strong position to meet the new guidelines five years ahead of time, through its continued investment in and development of pioneering electrified vehicles.”

Shame. Best car I ever had on the scheme was my yellow & black DS3… and I’ve been on the scheme just over 20-years with 7 cars. I had one when they very first came out & I constantly had people coming up to me for months looking at it & asking me questions. It turned heads wherever I went and even to this day – I still think they look so cool. Say what you like about the French, but one thing they know how to do better than anyone else is design small hatchbacks.
