Sorry to do another post – But me and wife and new to the whole ‘getting a car’ (ever) thing so we have no idea what to expect.

We have been told by the dealer that our car should be ready the first week of May – But can’t be any more specific.

My wife unfortunately has some major surgery on the 7th may – So, a couple of questions for those more in the know:

      – Can I pick the car up on her absence, given that I am the only driver and given the circumstances?

      – Will I simply get a phone call saying “It’s ready to collect when you are”? Or will the dealer know a little in advance when the vehicle will arrive there, and give me the same notice

      – If, due to the surgery and impact, I or both of us am unable to collect the car immediately, how long will the dealership hold on to the car and wait for me?

      Thanks

Dealer will call to make an appointment once they have the car, they usually need it a few days for a pre delivery inspection, and of course to register the car and put on the number plates,as for collection only by yourself,i suggest you ring motability,so you get it right, tell your wife i hope all goes well,

The dealer will let you know when the car has arrived and will sort up a collection date.

My current car was built from Nov 2018 to Feb 2019 and kept in a compound until the end of May as that was only when I could drive it.

Like Kevin said, speak to motability about the collection. Hope this helps

A simple and final part of your handover will be you giving the dealership your PIN number that you get through the post from Motability. The IMPORTANT thing about this is to make sure you check over and feel happy with the car before letting them have your PIN number.

Thank you – I’ve already got my checklist of features the car should have, and a further list of things to remind myself to check that I might not immediately think of (Tyre condition, any scratches)

I get the feeling I’m going to be really pissing the sales guy off!

Jay, to add to your list, look at panel fit – even gaps around doors bonnet and boot, trim lining up properly, paint colour matching and smoothness.  All faults I’ve seen on new cars…

Ah, thank you! Added to the list.
