Dealer says motability won’t allow a Saturday collection

      Hi all ,

Ordered a Volvo XC40 back in early July . The dealer wants to pencil in a date in the next few weeks for collection (even though it’s not showing as ready on Motabilitys website ) . I have good days and bad days and depending on medication levels some days I can’t drive . I have also had a fallen and badly injured me knee ,so I’m not driving at all at the moment . Hubby is self employed and works the showroom opening hours Mon- Fri . So we have asked for a Saturday collection . We received a response back saying I don’t think motability will allow this . Part of me wonders if it’s because Saturday is a busier day for them . Has anyone collected their new car on a Saturday ?

      Many thanks

Yes we collected out Seat Ateca last March on a Saturday for sure. I think they can’t put orders through on the weekend but we definitely picked ours up on a Saturday morning.

Quite regularly at weekends, Motability’s online dealer system (called OLA) is down for maintenance. This prevents applications, handovers etc taking place.

For example, from their dealer site today:

So, it is down again next weekend!

It could be the dealer is pre-empting it being down most weekends, so is arranging handovers for mid-week when the system should be live.

He’s talking nonsense. We did the handover on a Saturday last July when we picked up our XC40.  Most likely your salesman would prefer to be dealing with walk-in potential customers on a Saturday.

Thank you for all your replies . It’s been a headache with delivery originally October then December ,then January now it’s probably looking like the first weekend in March before we can collect .

I do hope it goes well for you.

In past I have had many problems from Volvo, I was given feeling I was less of a priority because I was motability customer, but I have been in position to buy 2 Volvo v70s , from new private before i became disabled and qualified ,even then I did not get respect ,it’s crazy, I stopped buying from Volvo. ,my 2015 Volvo V70 facelift was worst car I’ve ever had.

Good luck hope all goes well.

We’ve currently got an xC60 and extended it to the 5 yrs which ran out in December . The dealer we used for the XC60 no longer participates In the motability scheme . Which really is a shame as they have always been 100% . I will be using them to take it back for services etc . They treated us no differently.Yet this dealer has certainly looked down their nose at us and made us feel inferior . I’m trying to hang onto the XC60 as long as I can and will be gutted to see it go . I’ve had  a good selection of 4×4’s Discovery, Range Rover , 2 x freelanders , 2 x Mercedes ML270  and Mitsubishi shogun . The Volvo by far as has been the best . This was my first motability car and up until we had to change dealership it has been a flawless experience .

Im now rather anxious reading posts about fuel consumption (we’ve gone for the PHEV inscription pro ) uncomfortable seats . We go away most weekends in the summer 80 miles away and my parents live 280 miles away so comfort is a huge factor . We could only test drive for 2 hrs was meant to be a day . With the XC60 we had that for a full day so did the an 160 mile round trip and that sold it on the comfort side .

The dealership has told us the car can be charged off a 3 point standard domestic plug ,is this true ? Not sure for the estimated 25 miles I will get if it will be worth plugging it in .

Rubyru76. We’ve had our XC40 T5 Recharge Inscription Pro since last July. We charge off the 3 pin plug. Economics for us don’t justify shelling out for a wall charger which only allows the 10A charge rate to go up to 16A.  The range for local driving is 22 to 27 miles (in eco mode) in the summer and 18-22 in cold weather. We regularly do 100 mile each way journeys which are mostly dual carriageway and motorway and we drive at 65-70. Going up starting with a full battery we get about 60-65mpg, coming back with an empty battery 40-45mpg.  Another regular journey is slow and hilly cross country of about 70 miles each way, we manage 48-50 going up and 40-45 coming back.  The seats are supremely comfortable both for MrsW and me.  Hope this helps

To add, it makes no sense having a PHEV unless you plug it in.  The car’s computer says our petrol consumption since new (4500 miles) is 76mpg.  You can of course top up the battery charge for free at Tesco’s and other places. We’ve never bothered.

sure its done to stop handovers at weekends when they are busy with retail. cant really blame them in general.

In 37 years of motability cars i have had quite a few Saturday morning change overs and never a problem, one Vauxhall dealer tried to put me off but i told him its Saturday morning or i walk away and take my business elsewhere, guess what he did it on a Saturday morning.

/\  This. Total garbage if you can not collect when it is convenient to you.

I’m sure it doesn’t help mentioning it, but we picked our current car up on a saturday, too.
