Help appreciated from you clever – clogs on the site ….

My current car lease is due to end in July, sadly I’ll be leaving the scheme and expect to terminate early, probably in April. My current car has deepish scratch damage low on both nearside and offside front splitters, (otherwise perfect) which I’ve reported to RSA. I have the options of making two insurance claims bearing a £200 excess OR returning the car as – is. My question: If I have the insurance work done would this protect a good condition bonus, (ie spend £200 / get £600 back) whilst bearing in mind my early termination and making insurance claims. Best Advicee ??

I’d just send it back as is. We’ve had all sorts of scratches and scrapes and never missed out on the GCB. Also, if the splitters are plastic and can’t rust, I think your fine.

One thing to note is that you won’t get £600 GCB on early termination. I personally wouldn’t have it repaired as long as there’s no damaged or exposed metal.

Ours had an unsightly gouge/scrape and RSA said if we didn’t get it fixed it wouldn’t count against the good condition bonus, but we have 2 years left so decided to get it done.

As everyone has said, the damage will be acceptable as wear and tear. Incidentally, my dealer told me up to 5 areas of minor damage were ok depending on the size.  And you should check with Motability about the bonus giving you are only planning to hand the car back three months early.

                  Exactly like we did.

He’ll get paid the GCB pro rata, not the full amount. Also, early termination fee, £50.

I agree with all my learned forum colleagues above! Hand it back as it is. It won’t affect the GCB so it makes no sense whatsoever to pay the excess.
