I don’t think so Martino, the genie can’t be put back in the bottle and as soon as there is a vaccine or medication that reduces/eliminates the threat from covid, everything will go back to normal.

No thanks, I much prefer to have the same freedom and choice as we had a couple of months ago.
Im an oldie but to loose smart phones and the internet will make a lot of peoples life’s harder, lonelier. Back to normal as soon as possible.

I’m enjoying the lack of traffic and noise and I live in a rural area, it must be more pronounced if you live in a town or city.

The community spirit is a lot better with neighbours stopping and making sure all OK and asking do you need anything.

Would I miss the Internet, I’m afraid it would be a yes.

Totally agree with brydo within a few weeks/months of a vaccine it would be back to pre CV 19 days.

I hope it will but i cant see it.read somewhere that China has said it may come every year like a commen cold.so looks like it will be a yearly flu jab and yearly covid 19 jab.

I’m not sure things will ever go back to what they were. No vaccine is ever likely to give permanent corona virus protection otherwise we’d have had one for the common cold years ago. At best we’re talking about 2 year immunity in probably 18 months minimum assuming all goes well & only if the virus doesn’t mutate. There are already 33 strains of Covid19.

I don’t think the oil industry will ever recover now, we’ve been forced to finally accept that working from home isn’t a phrase meaning a day in bed & it can be done & work well. Given the huge reduction in road use, fuel etc & the collapse of crude prices I can see a sudden huge demand to get away from Dino power & possibly much much more working at home.

I’ve been saying for years call centres could be done as a distributed system. You sit at home with a headset, login to company system which routes incoming calls to all operators logged in via VOIP, you login when you can work & out when you cant & you get paid for the hours you’re signed & active it’d be a relative Doddle to setup, save a company a fortune on space, electricity etc too as well as help save the planet also as no one would be commuting that time could be worked instead.

Anyway I think things will move back, no more queuing to get in shops etc but it’s never going back to what it was.

Imho – More people will work from home if they can, and more will do their grocery (and as much other) shopping on-line if they can.  So fewer cars on the roads and more delivery lorries.

But I don’t think it will launch a new Grow Your Own movement.  The food supply wasn’t interrupted for nearly long enough to have scared people into attempting self-sufficiency.  I doubt it will reduce the number of people using pubs or fast food chains, either.

As far as working from home goes I think personally that everything will go back to the way it was before as this working from home has been talked about over the decades or even since the telephone was invented.

So why do I say that…well its all to do with trust and bosses will not now or ever trust their employees to be working when there out of sight. There is a way around that of course by having webcams in your home but who on Earth would go for that.

With shopping the percentages of online shopping will increase as it has over the past decade or two and the lock-down has more or less closed a lot of shops down and I think a lot of them won’t be re-opening after lock-down as its the final straw with the ever increases in business rates and the local council discouraging their customer not to go to town in there cars, it’s unfortunate for them as they get it in the neck from both sides. I try to buy things from my local shops when it comes to computers, white goods and all that but every month that goes by it becomes harder and harder and that’s even before the lock-down.

The only thing that will changed for me and her in doors personally is we will always use supermarket scan and go scanner in future because the week before the lock-down started we were at the checkouts in Asda during the panic buying and we were all huddled together like the London tube in rush hour and noticed the scan and go had hardly anyone using it and now having used it it’s so fast to bag your stuff up as you go and just leave the shop I think to myself “why did we never use this before” and one other thing is me and the wife are now using Apple Pay touch and go payments from our phones.

I hope that things will simplify, one of my daughters has worked from home for the last year and has no problems with it, the other daughter has been made to work from home since the virus, initially she found it hard but is settling into a new way of working. Neither have any issues with trust from their employers, with most of the work being online their managers can see if they are working or not.                                                                                                                                                                                   There is too much unnecessary travel, do we need companies to keep offices in London with staff commuting in daily to do work that can be done at home?

I rarely use my phone, too many years being tied to the bloody thing, don’t use social media at all. I would miss internet but I am happy living far away from towns and cities, growing veggies on the allotment.

My experience of this so far is trying to home school three primary school children all at different ages and levels of how much interaction, guidence they need. Also having a single laptop which they all need to be using st the same time.

It has not been easy, and will be well behind the standard of education there school would achieve.

So I hope schools can return to normal at some point.

Martino its good to hear other people suffer the same issues.

I have enjoyed the lack of traffic, quietness, and better quality of air this lockdown has brought but for me I can’t wait for nomality to return and return to living as opposed to existing.

I think we should be thinking of a new “normal” maybe we should take this opportunity to reassess our way of life. Constantly chasing economic growth via unsustainable consumption is not the best for our environment. We can and should try to make better use of technology to minimise our consumption of resources. Some things like schools should return as social interaction is an important part of development.
