with everything going up and up and up does it affect you ordering a new car or even keeping your current motability car. I know like most of us i defiantly need a motability car to get about or im stuck in the house.
However with gas/electricity in April up 54% then october up again by aprox 81% then in january up by 19%
benefit and wages go up by pennies , oh then petrol / diesel up ever day then food and house shopping and then everything else up ,
with all this worrying increases how do we manage, i only go out in the car if i have too to save fuel,
am i going to have to stay in for ever hand back my motability car and use the monthly payment towards my gas and electricity.
solution:- save on food – eat every 2 second day ,
dont use gas /electricity
dont go out
rant over
what do you think .

I think it’s going to get a lot worse for a lot of people for a long time before it gets any better 🙁
I moved over from benefits to my state pension in June, at the moment I’m almost £400 a month worse off as Pension Credits have a massive backlog. Reading posts on Rightsnet people were already waiting up to 6 months for payments to start and the recent goverment push for more pensioners to make sure they claimed Pension Credit has only added to the backlog.
Like you I now avoid using the car unless I have to, every time I have to go anywhere I’m working out what it will cost me.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
August 12, 2022 at 8:45 am #193838i hope not but i feel i might have to give up my mobility to live. trouble with that is, is it then wortyh the living? so i will try my best to keep it…

I added that like every other parent of a disabled child I have to look after him and put him first. Since I finally got him a place of his own this means making at least 5 20 mile round trips a week. In order to fund that my social life has disappeared, doing anything for myself simply isn’t an option I can afford.
Being the son of a small Irish mother I was taught at a very early age that whatever happens you just put your head down and get on with it.
Hopefully things will get better at some point.

August 12, 2022 at 9:15 am #193842My car is essential to get to work, I finish at midnight so public transport isn’t an option.
We don’t go out much if it’s not necessary due to petrol costs.
Our renewal is due in November and we’re having to make compromises on what we want/need to try and keep the AP manageable.
Dreading winter as my wife really feels the cold. It’s going to get worse before it gets better and when it does get better it will still be worse than it was. Prices will never drop down to where they were before all this started.
If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

August 12, 2022 at 9:46 am #193845As outlined by @martinod these are real and tangible things that are impacting upon us. The choice of affording a motability car or doing without because we need the money instead of the car to live.
Using our motability benefit to pay for our gas/electricity/and everything else that has gone up in price. Are motability even remotely aware of the choices we are having make?
I think of the 50 million to fund other charities, that could and should be used to lower the AP’s in these difficult times.

It’s only laziness stopping me handing mine back, however as the weather/seasons change might be more time to consider, must say used it more in the sun, getting around..
August 12, 2022 at 10:19 am #193858We are in a reasonable position we own our own 5 year old very energy efficient detached 2 bedroom bungalow, we recently fitted 4.4 kWh south facing solar panels and intend in October to add a solar energy battery storage, we are Octopus Go so can force charge the batteries off peak in the winter to reduce our cost. As our Motability vehicle is a Outlander PHEV most of our journeys are local we can run on off peak electricity.
Fortunately I am entitled to my old age pension this month, however in the next few months all this will be swallowed up.
I do really feel for those who are in a less favourable position, especially as been reported the majority of the MP’s (and no doubt the House of Lords) are claiming their energy bills on expenses.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.

I think I will be buying a cheaper not new car in Oct ,rather than taking out extra year on my lease.Combination of Reasons ,Everything like home fuel going up, Th huge increase in advance payments, the huge reduction in choice of vehicle to suit my needs, and the massive waiting lists that basically end up with a Motability customer getting to fight for the scraps. Think it a far better idea to buy a cheaper car for the next month/year and keep my no claims bonus intact( which otherwise would be lost this year) with the hope supply change issues etc will have been sorted out this time next year. It feels like a huge gamble that fuel won’t increase again next year, and the money saved at least over winter buying a cheapo not leasing , will help with heating bills.
August 16, 2022 at 11:51 am #194347What about if we all don’t pay. Seems they’re is a growning amount of people and the real hard time s ain;’t even hit yet. For some energy bills will be to high to pay come October, considering their income and if your only on benefits and cannot work due to your disabilities. The Mobility component should not have to be used to live on, to feed and heat your home.
But that’s the plan and how they plan to stop us using energy altogether as they do with cars and no holidays either in far away lands for the working class. Unless you can afford it then it’s no issue at all. Then there’s the farming land issues and the culling of animals to meet targets, less meat will increase prices and bill gates lab grown meat will be a better greener alternative at the same high price. So there’s no need to have any livestock at all now, except to get cells from to grow in the lab.
What will be the next crisis to blame it all it on, it is the actions they take that causes the chaos and then they can offer their solutions to meet the global agenda they have setout and believe is the way forward.
Would not surprise me if they actually want a cull of people on the planet and a lot more may die this winter, than normally do.

Nothing is beyond the realms of possibilities. If someone can dream it up and it’s possible, it can happen or be made to happen.
Like weather manipulation, it’s a secret till they want people to know about it. Many things are interconnected on a huge scale and it’s to big for many to perceive and believe that they wouldn’t do that to us the people.
Just like it was the usa that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan not russia, who can you really trust. whatever it is it’s used as a weapon first.
They see us the everyday people as the enemy and they are scared of us uniting and rising up against them. So they want us divided and often we do it ourselves and put ourselves in groups and sub groups and fight amongst ourselves and do not see what is really going on, slowly slowly till it’s to late to do anything.

August 19, 2022 at 9:38 pm #194739Everyone I’ve been in contact with, Disability forum, CAB, Age UK and the carers Service all agree I should be getting pensions credits, they’re just massively backlogged 🙁
Just to cheer me up I had an email from Octopus Energy telling me that Ofgem’s October price cap announcement is due on Friday 26 August and is expected to see prices increase by up to 80%
October’s Price Cap in context and Government support currently available
We don’t yet know what the October price cap will be, but it’s likely to be around £3,500 for a typical home. This is 80% higher than the same time last year and well over twice what it was last winter.
In May the government announced £400 support per household, which will reduce the impact of the October rise to about 50% more than current prices. This will take the form of an automatic monthly credit of £66 or £67 between October and March for all electricity customers, and where appropriate, an automatic reduction in your monthly payments. You don’t need to apply for this and we will pass it on automatically — we’ll also provide a way for anyone who wants to donate their credits to those who need it more to do so.
Many low-income households received £326 directly to their bank accounts (usually marked “DWP Cost of Living”) in July, with a second payment of £324 due in the autumn.
Those on tax credits will also receive £650, but have to wait until autumn for their first payment of £326, followed by a second payment in winter
Anyone receiving disability benefits will automatically receive £150 in September — this will be in addition to the £650 payment where relevant. Those on a pension will receive an additional £300 winter fuel payment
So it’s going to be a great Xmas this year 🙁

Did anyone get this 150 payment by any chance? I still haven’t received it ?

You won’t receive the £150 yet, as far as I am aware it will not roll out until the 20th September.
September 13, 2022 at 10:40 am #196177If were talking about the £150 linked to lower council tax bands I had mine months ago.
If you pay your council tax by direct debit the council will pay the £150 directly into the bank account that the council tax is debited from. This will be done automatically with nothing for the receiver of the £150 to do.
If you pay your council tax by cheque or at the post office you will need to apply for the £150 as the council does not know your bank account details. There should be an online form to download to apply for the money at your local council’s web address.
I’ve had no other £150 so assume this is the one were talking about, or is there another one ? With all the money being thrown around or talked about its easy to lose track of what were being given for help.
September 13, 2022 at 10:48 am #196179Around 6 million disabled people in the UK will receive their one-off £150 disability Cost of Living payment from 20 September.
Those being paid a qualifying disability benefit will be paid automatically from 20 September, with the vast majority of those eligible expected to receive their one-off payment within a couple of weeks by the beginning of October.
The payment will help disabled people with the rising Cost of Living acknowledging the higher disability-related costs they often face, such as care and mobility needs.
Those who receive the following disability benefits may be eligible for the one-off payment of £150 in September: Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Scottish Disability Benefits (Adult Disability Payment and Child Disability Payment), Armed Forces Independence Payment, Constant Attendance Allowance and War Pension Mobility Supplement.
Those who had confirmed payment of their disability benefit for 25 May are expected to be paid shortly after the payment window opens. For those awaiting confirmation of their disability benefits on 25 May, or who are waiting to be assessed for eligibility to receive disability benefits, the process may take longer but payments will still be automatic.
You must have received a payment (or later receive a payment) of one of these qualifying benefits for 25 May 2022 to get the payment.September 13, 2022 at 10:51 am #196180It was the Council Tax Rebate I was referring to (CTX). My Autistic son’s payment still hasn’t came through. I’ve been backwards and forwards with the council, every time it’s a 20-40min wait to get through on the phone. Latest update was an email saying they have his claim and here’s a reference number, exactly the same email and number we got originally.
Still no sign of my pension credits, I’m about 3 months behind now so around £900 I should have had by now.
I’ve given up ringing them as they just say we can’t tell you but someone will ring you back, never happens 🙁

Thank you Rox. Really helpful.
I have not received anything, and I assumed it would arrive with the pip payment.
Will wait a few weeks before contacting dwp as I had my assessment over a year ago and valid till 2024.
September 13, 2022 at 11:06 am #196182Sorry, brain not working, ran out of time to alter my post.
The £150 in my quoted post is the September disability payment.
We also qualified for the CTX £150 payment plus an extra £25 discretionary payment from the council.
