Collection not in person

      Hi all

I am an appointee for my son. We ordered his car in June and have been told the build date has moved to March 2024

Luckily we tracked down the same car 450 miles away – it was a cancellation. Unfortunately I can’t drive that far to collect it. I am willing to pay for it to be transported, because he desperately needs it.
Has anyone been able to have their vehicle released without collecting in person eg doing the necessary checks over zoom?

I’m intrigued! Is that like Scotland to Devon?

Do the dealer not have an option for delivery? (The rules say you have to collect it but they do have laptops ?)

But I’m glad to hear that they have a suitable vehicle in stock.

Speak with Motability and emphasise your urgent need. You can get it delivered, probably around £500 for that distance, but there may be insurance issues which MB can help with.

Is it a national dealership as the car could be transported to a more local dealer.

Motability won’t let you have it unless you are there in person to enter the PIN.

Is there a family member who would come with you and be willing to be a named driver and drive the car back for you, once you have enetered the PIN.

              Hi

thanks for the helpful replies. We are in Edinburgh and the car is in Kent!
I have recently had surgery so won’t be able to travel without great stress.
My son is only 18 and is uncomfortable driving that distance.
I have spoke to the dealerships they said it’s not something they do. I have got a reasonable price for a car transporter.
The only sticking point is the “being there in person”

I shall ring mobility tomorrow and plead my case.

My son  has just started an apprenticeship and needs to drive as he can’t take public transport, we were initially informed that the car  would be available September, if not earlier.

                Just an update …

There is no way round doing the handover without us being there in person, looks like he will just have to be patient

Fingers crossed something comes available sooner closer to home.

That’s an arse 🙁 don’t suppose your son wants a baptism of fire?! I’d ride shotgun if I was closer ?

But more sensibly at least he’ll get another 6 months of mobility allowance in his pocket.
