Change in Advanced Payment

      Hi All,

I placed a motability order about 4 weeks ago for a Volvo XC40. At the time of ordering the advanced payment for the car was £2499, with the new car payment of £750, the amount payable came down to £1749.

As prices are updated in October,  I thought I’d have a look and *surprise surprise* the advanced payment for the model I picked out is now £1499, potentially £749 with the new car payment :).

It’s a factory order and I was told there would be a lead time of 3-4 months, so I still have quite a wait until it’s ready. The advanced payment has not yet been paid and nothing has been signed whatsoever.

What are my options here? Would the dealer fulfill the new lower advanced payment? Am I able to cancel the order without incurring any costs?

Help and guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

This has been covered many times. The answer is: it depends what sort of dealer you have.

When I ordered my Enyaq in December, the prices came down in January, but my dealer said “he shouldn’t really do this” and pushed back.

However, I’ve since changed to an Ioniq 5, and my dealer told me very clearly that if the AP went down, he would resubmit the order.

As far as I understand it, Motability don’t encourage this.

If the prices go up we want them to honour the original agreement but if they go down we want them to charge us the current price…

So far as I’m concerned I’d ask to pay the new price but be prepared for them to say no. Not sure I’d kick up a stink if they declined.

They should but some can be awkward as it’s not really ment to happen but no one says they can’t do it either. My Peugeot dealer changed mine without me even asking and it was for nearly 2k. I asked a Hyundai dealer would he do it and he said no problem.

I can see a few big changes coming to motability soon and one will probably be the ap you agree to at time of ordering will be what you pay regardless of up price going up or down.
