Rachel<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi everyone,</p>
after some serious thought and consideration, I have decided that I would like to offer my car which is on order and due week 50, to any members on here who are interested. It is an 18d auto in Mineral Grey with black leather interior, no added extras.
The wrong colour was ordered and I just know that I won’t be happy with it so if anyone out there wants it, let me know. It cost £2899 AP but I got £500 knocked off so the balance to pay is £2399.
It will be delivered to Stratstone BMW Leeds. Just message me if you’re interested as it is due to go for adaptations after arrival on site.
Thanks,
Rachel

I’m sorry to hear that Rachel, but if you won’t be happy then you are doing the right thing. As a fall back, you are technically under no obligation to accept the car until you enter your PIN, so if nobody takes up your offer (or the offer comes too late – see last paragraph) then you can still walk away.
For anyone contemplating Rachel’s kind offer, I have an X1 (albeit a 2.0i petrol 4WD) and it’s a fantastic car. I had two separate extended test drives in 18d X1’s, including the exact model that Rachel is offering up, and it”s a peach of an engine. For those not familiar with BMW diesels, they are as quiet as most other manufacturers petrol engines! I have had quite a few BMW’s with the 20d engine and have to say that in the X1 the 18d feels just as good. Incredibly refined, quiet and very rapid whilst delivering excellent fuel economy.
Given the way that the Motability scheme is going, cars like this won’t be available much longer. Following the removal of the Volvo XC40 yesterday the X1 is the sole surviving premium SUV on the scheme.
HOWEVER – rumour has it that the X1 is being removed from the scheme tomorrow. If true (and we have no reason to doubt it) then anyone wanting to take up Rachel’s kind offer would need to act TODAY or it may be too late.
November 18, 2021 at 11:34 am #169396Rachel – If you were thinking of ordering another X1 in your preferred colour combo, keep in mind that if the X1 is removed from Motability tomorrow as predicted, today will be the last day you can do so. There are now no other premium SUV’s left on the scheme so I would think carefully before you let your car go to someone else as you now have far less choice than when you ordered and will be at the back of a very long queue.
November 18, 2021 at 12:05 pm #169405To be fair, the X1 might be removed for the same reason as the XC40, and the T-Roc. All of which have facelifts lined up in the very near future.
As a sidenote, the Tiguan is a premium SUV regardless of your opinion of it (so is the Audi Q2), and Mercedes is poised to return in Q1 22, potentially offering the GLA again.

Rachel@Glos Guy, Thank you for writing that about the X1, it’s very kind of you.
I have spoken to the dealership already and asked if they could possibly re-order the car with the oyster interior but was told it’s not possible. Apparently I need to accept the one that’s arriving as it’s already being built and if I don’t, they’ll have an extra car to sell that they hadn’t ordered.
I feel really bad about it if I don’t accept it and I KNOW it’s a fantastic car but I really don’t like the all black interior. Maybe in being picky but I’m just upset about it because I’m not getting what I asked for. My Dad tells me “don’t be daft, it’s just to get you from A to B” however, I really enjoy driving and do a few trips down to London from Yorkshire and to my Cousin’s house in Cambridgeshire.
Arghh!!! My head’s a shed ha ha ha!!!
What do I do Glos Guy???♀️ You seem to be very knowledgeable – help me please ?

RachelAlso, I still have my suspicions that I’ve got someone else’s cancelled order as I only ordered it in September. I can’t prove it though
November 18, 2021 at 2:37 pm #169430While “the wrong colour” could be a reason to cancel an order for us, it’s not really like you got a screaming red and green interior instead of what you ordered.
The question boils down to, do you want an X1 or not. If you want one, you very likely have to live with a black interior for three years. The other option is “not having an X1”, since it’s very likely to get removed from the scheme by tomorrow.
I don’t know if i’d pass on one of the best cars on the scheme because the interior is black instead of white. Does it suck that they kinda screwed you? Absolutely. And i certainly would try and get a concession or two, like non-factory options added for free (i admittedly don’t know what BMW offers – things like luxury carpet mats, quality boot liners etc), maybe a full tank of diesel – something that sweetens the deal.
I would not however pass on the X1. Especially not considering that you’re only going to “own” it for 3 to 5 years. There’s also really nothing Glos Guy can say or do, if your dealership does not budge on their statement that they won’t re-order it, there’s nothing you can do other than cancelling and potentially losing out on the X1 altogether.
The only other thing you can do is cancel, hope and pray that the car doesn’t get removed from the scheme, and re-order it from a different dealership/group, even if that means having a journey to the new dealership. Be prepared though that you most likely will have to wait considerably longer than quoted for your current car, because i do agree that it sounds like you got a cancelled order.

PaulMy personal opinion for what it’s worth, keep it ? it’s not worth the risk of losing out on the model you actually want for the sake of the interior colour but that’s just me ?
November 18, 2021 at 3:10 pm #169435
WigwamX1 is a great car. I would keep it and jazz up the interior with some red carpet mats.
November 18, 2021 at 3:31 pm #169440
RachelThanks guys, I really do need to give this some serious consideration before cancelling.
Rene – I feel better hearing that you suspect the same as me, about the possibility of me getting somebody else’s cancelled order. I’m usually a very patient and easy-going person but this has really p*ssed me off! I need to forget that though and just think about the car. As you say, I might not get another deal as good as this if I let it go. I’ll just go to a different dealership next time.
Also, I know I can’t possibly ask Glos Guy to decide for me, I guess I was just wanting someone to make the decision for me when I wrote it ha ha!Thank you too Paul and Wigwam for your comments. I find it really helpful to hear your opinions on this.
November 18, 2021 at 3:48 pm #169445I’m pretty sure he’ll tell you the same as us: try to make the best out of the bad situation you’re in. Take the car, try to grab a freebie – there’s not really any alternatives left, especially not in that price region.
In the end, even if it comes back to the scheme (if it’s removed due to facelift, probably not before Q2 or Q3 22), there’s no guarantee that it isn’t “up there” with GLA etc in price. As in, £4000 and more.
In the end it does come with the upside that you’re getting your car in a timely manner. That’s rare nowadays, my wife and i are in for a 10 months wait now, and that goes for most manufacturers to differing degrees (including BMW).
Genuinely, give the car a shot. Black interior isn’t all bad, it’s easier to keep clean and imho is more cozy in the dark (as opposed to oyster, which is more cozy in daylight). I also think that the interior lighting will improve the looks of it.

Rene – The X1 isn’t due a facelift. It’s an all new model. Trouble is it probably won’t be out until well into next year, then there will be a delay until it comes on to Motability (if at all) and then finally we may only be ‘allowed’ the low trim levels / engines. We contemplated waiting for it, but in the end decided that we would be half way through our current lease before it would appear on the scheme anyway. Also, we probably wouldn’t be ‘allowed’ the 2.0i petrol 4WD one by then!
As for the Tiguan, I am not basing my comment on my personal judgement but on U.K. car industry classifications. VW may be considered a premium brand in Germany but here it’s not. From memory, it’s ‘upper mid sector’. Audi (also VW group) is classified as a premium brand. We have had 4 Tiguans before our current X1. It’s a perfectly functional car and I’m not surprised it’s popular on Motability (as it was for us) but now having the X1 has really reinforced the difference between mid-sector and premium brands. The Tiguan has more standard kit (other than the major omission of leather) but in my view it’s quantity over quality. All the comparable functions (sat Nav, multimedia, voice control, cruise control, high beam assist etc etc) work far better in the BMW than they did in any of our Tiguans.
November 18, 2021 at 5:44 pm #169460Hi again Rachel. Well, seeing as you have asked what I would do in your position, I will tell you. Basically, I agree with Rene, Paul and Wigwam. I think you would be mad to cancel! You’ve got a cracking car there and it’s in the best exterior colour IMO. I know you fancied Storm Bay, as did we until we saw one in the flesh, but the xLine really suits Mineral Grey as it colour matches the half painted alloys and is a gorgeous colour in its own right.
Black interiors aren’t my choice either, but we are in unique times at present. It is likely that from tomorrow there won’t be a single premium suv left on the scheme. Anything else you order might be bigger, or have more standard kit, but won’t be in the same class in terms of quality and refinement. You will also have a VERY long wait ahead of you, all the while you could have been some months into your new car.
When we were deciding what to do earlier this year, several forum members suggested that we should extend the lease on our Tiguan. We contemplated it but with the benefit of hindsight it would have been a major error. Every single car on our shortlist will have been removed from the scheme by tomorrow (other than the Ford Kuga, but we discounted that when we looked at it as the interior seemed very low rent). If we had extended, I would be biting your hand off today to snap up your X1 order. I would live with a black interior to save a 6 to 9 month wait. Although we no longer need a diesel, having driven an 18d Auto X1 extensively I would be more than happy with it. The lack of 4WD would be a bit more of an issue but that’s not an issue for you.
So, if your head is spinning and you need someone else to make the call, listen to Rene, Wigwan, Paul, me and Dad (Dad’s are always right BTW) and TAKE THE CAR!
You won’t regret it.
November 18, 2021 at 6:07 pm #169464indeed, i would take car as you could wait a year for something maybe not so good.
Current Car: Hyundai Kona Premium EV...2 way 40kg hoist
Last Car: Toyota C-HR Excel Hybrid...4 way 80kg hoistNovember 18, 2021 at 7:41 pm #169485Rachel, originally part of me wished I had picked up the Xdrive version rather than Sdrive. The reality is since we have had over the last couple of weeks, I’ve not been bothered at all. Driving the car is a pleasure, interior quality is brilliant irrespective of which leather option you have and the engines are top notch.
As far as the leather seats are concerned, to me they seem more of a charcoal grey look. At night the led lights make the interior pop nicely. In all honestly after a day of so you may find the interior quickly blending in. We often spend more time looking out the window and checking the excellent instrument panels to the point we spend less time focusing on the trim.
Its an excellent car and given its days may be numbered on the scheme, I’d still go for it. The tiguan we tested prior was nowhere near in terms of drive/quality/comfort.

RachelHa ha thanks so much everyone for your help, I think I’ve had the wake up call I needed – I’ll take the car!!! I’d be stupid not to!
Wigwam, I agree totally about the colour, it was a close run thing between Mineral Grey and Storm Bay Grey. It’s the interior that I am most peeved about but as the X1 is one of the best SUV’s on the scheme, I’m going to try to live with it?.
Prior to my current car (Audi Q3 S line 2.0 TDI auto) I had a Mini Countyman 2.0 SD auto and that drove SO NICE. I know that it had a BMW engine so I’m hopeful that the X1 will be as nice to drive. I can’t actually test drive the cars myself as I need adaptations so I always rely on my Uncle to do the test drives with me. He said it drove really well and I found it to be very comfortable as a passenger. Also, I’ve had and update at 7pm from the BMW dealer, she confirmed that Motability are removing the X1 as of midnight tonight. She thinks this is due to the fact that they are extremely busy with other non Motability orders.
Thank you so much guys, your help has been beneficial for me. I will post some photos when it arrives – mid December hopefully.
Oh and Glos Guy, I agree – I should always listen to my Dad as invariably, he’s always right! ???
November 18, 2021 at 10:57 pm #169494
RachelRegarding the colour, I said Wigwam but I meant Glos Guy ???♀️!
Sorry ha ha!
November 18, 2021 at 11:13 pm #169496Good decision Rachel. Keep in mind that BMW’s are drivers cars and when you are driving you don’t see the seats ?
Also, as from tomorrow, there will be hundreds of Motability customers who would bite your hand off for the car that you will be getting. Even those who managed to order in the last few days of the X1 being on the scheme will be waiting until well into next year before they get behind the wheel of theirs.
Most people would give their right arms for a cancelled order in the current climate, even if the colour combo isn’t their first choice. I would draw the line at a Sunset Orange ? or Sparkling Brown one though ?

Andy WoodI previously had a bmw 3 series with the oyster interior, whilst it looks great it was a right pain to keep clean, you wouldn’t believe the amount of blue dye I had to keep cleaning off the seats after my son went in the car, indeed after 3 years one of the back seats had a permant blue tone to it as it just wouldn’t clean off anymore. Our new x1 is due in a couple of weeks and that’s having mocha seats as they will be much easier to keep clean.
they would probably been ok with professional cleaning or maybe my son should have just stopped buying jeans from m and s.

ReneGood decision.
Also, sucks to see the X1 go for quite a while i would assume.

It was your sons jeans Andy! I’m on my third BMW with the Oyster interior and never had this issue. Around once a year I wipe them over with a leather cleaner, which is good practice anyway with leather, and any grubby marks come off with ease. Takes minutes. They still look like new after the 3 years.
