It’s not Motability, it’s the veterans agency.

If you’re on WPA, they will contact you automatically (no pun intended) as soon as you place your order.

I’ve just done it and their letter arrived within a week to tell me that they will cover the cost (up to £660) and will send me a cheque once I have the car.

                Paul,

When you go to order the car, and the dealer is filling out the ‘form’ on the computer, get him/her to ‘tick’ the aids/adaptions box.

For WPMS customers this fetches up a list of aids/adaptions boxes, including ‘Automatic Tranmission’. The dealer needs to put a tick in this box (plus any of the other aids/adaptions that you need that are available from Veterans UK).

If you/the dealer forgets, as Dougie states above, if you order an automatic vehicle Veterans UK will write to you to remind you of the entitlement to the automatic transmission grant after your order has been processed.

If this is the first time you have used these grants, the Veterans UK (or whatever they are calling themselves this week) will confirm if the aid/adaption is ‘in line with’ your war pensionable disability. If it isn’t (for example, a left leg amputee requesting a left foot accelerator!) they may request confirmation from you of the need for such an aid/adaption, or in the worst case send you for a medical assessment.

                Dave
