kbfernLooking at the adaptions we had a boot hoist added to our order earlier this week before the new prices and it has gone from £290 to £590 as have all the other hoists. They are really shafting us this time, fortunately my order should be at the old price I hope.

That’s a great shame on top of all the other bad news (cars being removed, AP’s rising etc). As an aside, I would advise anyone against ordering Jeff Gosling hand controls. They are a very poor design with the rods sitting below the steering column and therefore fouling legs when you get in and out of the car. Other makes are much better designs with the rods inside the steering column. Can’t remember the name of the system we had but it was nil cost (a few years ago, might not be know).

Thats scandalous with price rises of over 100%.It really does seem like the disabled are being taken advantage of.

Not only do we take a hit on the premium for automatic cars we now have to take a hit on the adaptions too.
My hoist has gone up 94% and has me thinking the unthinkable thing of leaving Motability sometime over the next 24 months and in that time I can save a few bob to buy the car I have when it won’t be worth much, it’s that or I find a dealer / manufacture who will give a few hundred quid on the AP’s, unlikely, but over the next year or so I will see.
It’s really is annoying that 6 months ago they took away the ability to transfer your hoist to another car and now with these price hikes we can see where Motability are going.

kbfernI just rang Des Gosling as we had an email from them saying to contact them:
“We have recently received an order through Motability to fit the following adaptations to your new vehicle: Volkswagen ID.4
Details of the adaptation(s) that have been requested:
– 80Kg 4 Way Compact Boot Hoist (Smartlifter LC Range)
This vehicle, as yet, has no hoist kit designed for it. We imagine by the time your vehicle arrives that there will be a kit, however, we cannot guarantee that we are going to be fit this style or size hoist. Please contact us to confirm that the order and your contact information is correct. Motability require us to have contact with you before an order can go ahead, even if you have had the same adaptations before or if you have given information to the dealership”
I have just spoken to them and they said they don’t think there is a problem fitting the 80kg hoist although they do have a smaller 40kg that would do the job. I said it did not matter which hoist was fitted as the scooter only weighs 25kg. I did say though if we had to have a 40kg lift would it still cost me £290 or the new price of £590 and he said probably whilst it should be £590 motorbility would probably let it go through at £290. So it looks like we will be ok.

GeorgieThe whole situation with massive AP increases Quarter on Quarter, and now the increased cost of Adaptations, is getting ridiculous and a really serious issue for a lot of people. I know Motability sometime provide Grants for people who need a bit of help getting a specific vehicle with features they need, but do they also provide Grants to help pay for adaptations?

ReneI think the grants are mainly for adaptations, rather than features/options. I might be wrong though.
