The new Tiguan Allspace is now available from dealerships, offering all the most popular strong points of a spacious SUV, space for up to seven people, an updated design and new efficient engines. The long version of Volkswagen’s best-selling SUV model is also available with new technological features, such as IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist for semi-automated driving assistance, We Connect mobile online services and IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights. Customers can choose between five engines, front-wheel or all-wheel drive, and the three equipment packages Life, Elegance and R-Line. The entry price for the new Tiguan Allspace (1.5 l TSI, 110 kW / 150 PS, 6-speed manual gearbox1) is 36,900 euros.
Since it was launched onto the market in 2017, the Tiguan Allspace has become an out-and-out success. The new variant, which is 22 centimetres longer than the standard Tiguan, has sold more than 1.7 million units around the world to date. The Tiguan Allspace has now also received the same updates as the shorter model variant – impressing with a sharper look, digital cockpit and comprehensive connectivity. The different powertrain options have an array of sustainable innovations. The new control and assist systems guarantee even more convenience, as the new Tiguan Allspace brings on board a wide range of online-based services and functions, thanks to the next-generation Infotainment system MIB3.

When it comes to its look, the illuminated radiator grille and dynamic turn signals are real highlights. Customers also have the option of ordering the interactive IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, which offer added safety and comfort. The LED tail light clusters have also had a makeover. Additionally, there are two new exterior paintwork options and an extra 18-inch design for the range of alloy wheels.

Spacious vehicle interior with a digital update

The Tiguan Allspace’s interior has enough space for an optional third row of seats. With this option, the spacious five-seater vehicle transforms into an SUV with space for up to seven people. To give the interior a modern feel, the vehicle is equipped with the Digital Cockpit Pro as standard, an updated multifunction steering wheel, and an Infotainment system with a large colour display measuring up to 9.2 inches. The optional Air Care Climatronic 3-zone automatic climate control system is controlled from a new module with touch panels in the centre console. Add to that the third generation of the modular infotainment matrix (MIB3), which enables customers to enjoy advanced We Connect mobile online services. These include, for example, an Online Voice Control feature, access to streaming services, cloud-based personalisation, and wireless use of apps via App-Connect Wireless for Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. The digital innovations in the new Tiguan Allspace enhance the driving experience while reflecting Volkswagen’s new ACCELERATE strategy – and the company’s transformation into a software-oriented mobility provider.

Wide range of drive systems, improved emissions

Five efficient and powerful drive systems are available for the new Tiguan Allspace: The 2.0-litre TDI drive systems with 110 kW (150 PS)2 and 147 kW (200 PS)3improve their emissions thanks to a dual SCR catalytic converter with twin AdBlue® dosing. The 1.5-litre TSI engine with 110 kW (150 PS), which comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox1 as standard or an optional 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox4, is equipped with Active Cylinder Management (ACT). Two further 2.0-litre TSI engines are also available, delivering 140 kW (190 PS)5 and 180 kW (245 PS)6. Their power is transferred to the road thanks to the standard 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. All engine options comply with the strict Euro 6d-ISC-FCM emission standard. In conjunction with 4MOTION, the permissible maximum trailer weight is 2.5 tonnes.

      Advanced assist systems

The new Tiguan Allspace’s technological update also includes new, very advanced assist systems. The standard equipment package offers the enhanced Front Assist Autonomous Emergency Braking function, Lane Assist lane departure warning system, Driver Alert System, and Active Cruise Control (ACC), which also includes the Stop & Go function when combined with the 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox. The optional IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist function facilitates assisted steering, braking and acceleration at speeds up to 210 km/h. Predictive cruise control (Predictive ACC) is also available as an option.

      New structure for specification packages

In Germany, the new Tiguan Allspace is available with three specification packages: Life, Elegance and R-Line. The standard equipment in the Life package includes silver exterior mirror housing, silver anodised roof railing, 18-inch alloy wheels, comfort seats, two USB ports and an electric boot lid. Hi Mike

I’m waiting for this one to turn up on Motability as I’ve got a standard Tiguan on order but would prefer something with a slightly longer boot if the AP is not too wayward.

It was in the August edition of Lifestyle in the “coming soon” section and my dealer told me it should be on Motability before the end of year.

While the bigger boot is welcomed that is offset by being harder to find parking spaces it will fit in so a bit of a shall I or shalt I decision to change my order when it turns up.

Interesting bit about availability in 5 or 7 seat variants and would be great for me not having to pay extra for the back two seats but from history and looking at the Touran as example they tend not to do the 5 seat version in the UK and although the Touran was 5 or 7 seat it never appeared on Motability in that format AFAIK.

          Hey ChrisK,

I suppose VAG feel that they are covered for the longer 5 seat vehicle , by offering this facility via the Skoda Kodiaq?

My son rented the Kodiaq 7 seater for a week on holiday, and loved it, but couldn’t get one for his own use at home in Copenhagen, so has just picked up a Mercedes GLB on a 3 year lease!

I have tried the Kodiaq, and it is a nice car, but , and it Is a personal choice, I preferred the Allspace , and would plump for the reverse parking aid, which I have on my Tiguan SEL, but have only used twice, but probably would have used regularly if I had an Allspace ?

AP’s seem to be a bit of a problem these days , with them ever rising, and I have an ID.4 on order with the £2845 AP plus some extras, but if an Allspace Hybrid comes on line at Motability,at the right AP, I might swop over?

              Hi,

Now in month 10 of Allspace SEL 1.5 dsg which replaced a Touran SEL. Does feel a bigger car in tight spaces, but my wife manages standard supermarket spaces ( I get the larger disabled bays). The deeper boot was essential as have both a hoist and my granddaughters bulky car seat permanently in row 2. The boot allegedly is the same length as a Touareg and that feels vast on the road. Loving the Allspace.

Agree with Chris. Shame a five seat version is not offered in the uk. The boot floor is slightly raised to accommodate those seats which are never used. I was a little wary about Mexican build quality vs Wolfsburg. Thus far, equally faultless. Hope it returns to the scheme.

I also agree that the 5 seat version would be a very welcome addition in the U.K.  Most of us would probably never use the 3rd row seats so would be carrying around unnecessary weight as well as the uneven boot floor issue. We found the boot in our standard Tiguan to be a bit too small for my wife’s wheelchair and I had to roll the rear seats forward slightly to ensure that the tailgate didn’t bounce back when closing. The BMW X1 that we replaced it with is much better and the wheelchair fits with room to spare even with the rear seats in their most reclined position.

Given the way that the Motability scheme is going, I could see the Allspace returning to the scheme with the lower powered engines only and possibly even just in the poor spec Life model. Not much chance of the 190PS engines in Elegance and R-Line trim I would think.

I think you are right GG, although if the AP’s of the ID.4 are anything to go by, maybe the top specs on an Allspace will be offered , but at sky high AP’s?

The lower spec models seem to feature quite comprehensive equipment anyway, but clearly won’t have the luxury stuff, like sunroof etc. and it’s a case then of what is more important to the individual eg more space or sunroof Etc etc etc I guess?

Different rules seem to apply to anything electric though Mike. Maybe the PHEV Allspace could sneak in under that exemption? I haven’t looked at the ID range as they seem to be more hatchbacks than SUV’s. Having had panoramic sunroofs I wouldn’t be bothered about one again (we haven’t missed it at all on our X1) but there are a lot of other things on the Elegance model that I would want, several of which aren’t even on the R-Line bizarrely. IQ lights immediately spring to mind.

Agree. Once you enjoy the benefits of not having to dip on bendy hilly roads, IQ leds would be tough to lose, speaking as someone with increasing disability. Ditto powered tailgate. heated steering wheel means not having to wear gloves in winter making touchscreens more accessible. Roof rail for stability and security between boot and drivers seat. The excellent ergo comfort seats a boon, although the massage function is little used. The Allspace is as close to perfect for my needs as I’m likely to get.

I’ve added the IQ Lights to my order because currently I use a remote control from the steering ball to control the main beam so one less thing to worry about. That said I think the Tiguan has auto dip as standard but I think the IQ Lights just finishes the look of the car off.

I would have like to add the heated windscreen at £350 and that’s a reasonable price until you realised you have to add the wireless phone charger at £430 giving a total of £750. Not minding £350 for something I would use for something that cost an extra £430 is a shove it up your you know what price more so when you can buy a phone wireless charging mat for a tenner that plugs into a USB port.
