Been informed by local dealer that they opened their order books for the new Kona EV (2024) for delivery in last quarter of 2023.

They are unsure when a demonstrator will arrive, been advised that it might not be before  September

Was going to order a Kia Niro EV 4, 64kwh, in June for September delivery (12 week delivery time quoted)

Now I’m unsure whether to wait for a new Kona demonstrate to come in to dealer, so I can compare.

Knowing my luck, a Kona demonstrate will coming to dealership a week after I’ve placed my Niro order.

Whilst the new Kona looks very tempting, I’d take anything the dealer tells you with a very large pinch of salt. Lots of us are still waiting for the old model to be delivered after waiting up to a year already. I ordered last June and have been pushed back time and time again – latest estimate is August delivery. I understand that the new R/H drive model is being made in Czech Republic rather than South Korea so that may speed things up I guess.

If it was me, I’d just order the Kia whilst it’s still on the scheme with a reasonable AP. I suspect that the Kona in top Ultimate spec. which is similar to the Niro 4 will have a higher AP if it does make it onto the scheme anytime soon!

The Kia has a larger boot 451 L, ideal for wheelchair users, don’t know if the new Kona will match it for size, the current one is a lot smaller at 332 L.
