I recently went through the process having changed my car.
I contacted DVLA on a Friday and completed the process. By Monday afternoon my MB online account showed that my car registration number had been updated to reflect the change and I received the Retention document within a week. I passed it onto the dealer and my personal plate was on my new car when I collected it.
