I had the same experience with Ohme. I was told by Ohme that my install would be non-standard with an estimated £150-500 charge. Obviously I asked for justification and they said they wouldn’t provide detailed costing unless paid for an in-person surgery. Motability sent a complaint to Ohme on my behalf, which was then ignored. The conclusion from motability was to choose and order a car and then we would get an in-person survey completed for free. (This seemed ridiculous to order the car, but I was assured we could cancel if the charger install would be expensive). This was June.
Fast forward to mid-Aug and we have a Volvo waiting at the dealership. We had the survey visit from ProEV and the installer said it would be standard. (I was utterly shocked as he said he’d access the route in ways that Ohme said were not possible). We’ve had to have some electrical work competed first, for a non-charger related issue, but we’re now in the process of booking an install date.
Also, we were told that motability have the ability to help (a few hundred pounds I believe) with non-standard installs, but we didn’t get that far to have to push for it.
We also found out that ohme send an additional charging cable (5 or 8m) m, which is worth knowing.
In conclusion, I’d advise that you place an order for a car and then a home survey should be the next step. That should give you the detailed information you need. (Our installer said that they send the non-standard work to ohme who then generate the extra costings, which is the part I’d be suspicious of).
When we ordered the car I made it very clear to the dealership that this was what I was doing and that the car would be cancelled if we encountered a financial obstacle with the charger.
There has to be an easier way to do this instead of having to order the car.
We’re still in the process and haven’t got the car yet, but hopefully this should help.
