I’d never heard of an Ineos Grenadier @BigDave, so just looked it up. What a cracker. Looks like the classic Defender but with BMW engines and transmissions. I can absolutely see why they appeal, especially if you’ve had one on a prolonged test and it ticked all the boxes. Great call to keep those old Defenders as well. They will only ever appreciate in value as they are true collectors cars. How are you finding the X6? My wife thinks we should consider one as it doesn’t have the split tailgate that slightly puts me off the X5.

To be honest I am still getting used to it – particularly the BMW ‘eco-system’ electronics/info-tainment system. However, my brother-in-law seems to be taking every possible opportunity to ‘borrow’ it at the moment!

I am pleased I went for the uprated xDrive 40d diesel model – as it does literally go like ‘shxx off a shovel’! Although one thing I have found is that the auto engine cut out (at traffic lights etc) does seem a little slow to restart compared to the Discovery. So, I have switched it off – no doubt much to the disgust of cyclists in York!  I believe there is a software update to cure this so will get it sorted at some point.

Comfort wise it is just more comfortable than the Discovery. Knee and leg room up front are great and I don’t feel at all ‘hemmed in’ whilst driving it. The lumbar support is probably the best of any vehicle I have ever driven.

It is just a cruising machine on the motorway.  Although x-drive (awd) I haven’t had it out in any mucky stuff or off road yet, so I haven’t explored that side of it – but that is what the Grenadier will be for!
