Even when riding bikes the small mirrors gave better perception. The other important thing to note is, if one got damaged it would almost certainly be an insurance claim. With standard mirrors you can easily replace broken glass cheaply yourself or even get a cheaper sticky backed glass, that stick to the broken one.
