    Just spoke to motability about cancelling an order. They said dealer may charge a fee. Also it’s nothing they can do if charged. It is between me and dealer. Has anybody been charged a fee for cancellation and how much.

    They always say this mostly, I think, to deter people from doing it, but I’ve never known anyone to be charged a fee and I think we would have read about it on this forum if they had.

    One or two people have had a bit of difficulty getting deposits or money they had paid for extras back, but have always been successful in the end as the dealers were just trying it on.

    The key reason that you shouldn’t be charged a fee is because we never actually enter into a legally binding contract with a dealership. The contracts are between the dealer (or manufacturer) and Motability Operations and between us and Motability Operations. The latter is the only one that we can be held to and only comes into force when we enter the PIN as we accept the car.

    In the scenario that you describe you can cancel and the dealer has no come back. Just be honest with them about the reason that you are cancelling so that they learn from it.
