I understand your feeling of misfortune due to the AP changing for a lower rate, this has just happened to our vehicle which was ordered last week 23/03/23 and has since had the AP reduced from £7999 to £5999. because the AP was agreed before the April update it remains at the higher rate and this is in the terms and conditions on the MB web page, i just wonder how the dealer feels about this situation as i am not best pleased to be paying a considerable amount more for such a short period of time.
Neil – as Mitch says, your situation is very easy to resolve. You just ask the dealer to re- do the admin with Motability. Takes a matter of minutes and you instantly get the car for the lower AP. It costs the dealer nothing other than a few minutes of their time and they don’t even need to even cancel the order to do so (the actual order is between the dealer and the manufacturer, what shows on the Motability website isn’t the actual order, it just shows that they’ve authorised an order for that particular car at the AP on the day the dealer inputted it).
If they play silly buggers just cancel (which you are perfectly entitled to do at any time prior to the day of delivery at no financial cost to yourself) and re-order, with a different dealership if necessary. Absolutely no need whatsoever for you to pay the higher AP.
Rico – Have you actually got the car? If not, you can do the same as above. If you already have the car then that is indeed a terrible situation to be in. There is a lesson for everyone here in paying these eye watering APs at your peril. That doesn’t help you though. I’d give Motability a call and talk it through. As you suggest, even saying you’d like to terminate could trigger some response. Motability are ripping customers off with these over inflated APs and they are sitting on hundreds of millions of pounds of surplus funds as a result of these over charges. They are quite happy to dish this out to all their employees through an overly generous pay and benefits package, including bonuses of thousands for even junior staff, so they should damned well help out people in your situation IMHO.
