I’d be absolutely staggered if Hyundai are delivering the new 2023 Kona for existing Kona orders. It’s a brand new model, it’s not on Motability, they don’t know what the prices will be, no detailed specs have been published, they’ll probably fill retail orders first because the margins are higher, & first availability is no more solid than “summer 2023”, and the petrol & hybrid versions are said to launch before the electric version.
I’m sure it will eventually be available on Motability, but the cost is going to be a LOT higher than the current model, because it’s a new model and higher electricity prices have led to demand softening and residuals dropping as a result.
In my experience, you cannot trust a single world Hyundai say. My Kona electric was ordered in January 2022, with delivery for June 2022. It’s slipped every single month since, latest being January 2023, and Hyundai have just outright lied numerous times – for instance, saying delivery was July 2022, when they knew in June 2022 that it hadn’t even started to be built yet! They also contacted me to let me know of the delays a grand total of…zero times.
Hyundai have some very good products, and a decent network to back them up, but their approach to customer service is amongst the very worst I’ve experienced. I’m convinced Hyundai realised they’ve an enormous Kona electric backlog in orders, and decided to cull it down to a more manageable size by making customers experience so poor that they’d just cancel orders. Speaking to my local dealer, he’s told me they’ve had many Motability orders cancelled by customers. The government changes in EV grants has also made Hyundai’s pricing too low for some models, although the increase in residuals must offset this?
Good luck, I hope you do get the new Kona electric and I’m proven wrong.
