Hi Kate – It sounds as though the dealer cancelled your order when they called you in December to say that the 2021 model had gone out of production. They shouldn’t have done that without you agreeing to it. Almost everyone ordering cars from any manufacturer at present is going to end up with a newer model year than when they ordered – sometimes several model years newer – due to the excessive lead times. As long as the original order is kept active this doesn’t matter. You get the latest model year version at the original Advance Purchase (AP) price that was applicable when you ordered.
If a dealer cancels an order you start all over again and have to pay the AP that applies at the time, which is why Motability aren’t helping you. Your only hope (if you still want the car) is to make a complaint to the dealer about the fact that they cancelled your order without your consent (unless when they called you in December they told you they were doing so and you didn’t challenge them) and see if they will take a hit and honour the original AP. If that doesn’t work, I would walk away.
Even with the severely reduced choice on Motability at present you can get better cars than a Jeep for that sort of AP. Two that spring to mind are the Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai Tucson.
