I’ll be in the minority, but I haven’t got much of a problem with this anyway. I’m assuming there will be a ‘depress accelerator fully’ override for safety reasons. I already let Google record my trips anyway, so having my car do it isn’t really a huge issue, and if the police want to have a look at the data they would need good reason/and a warrant tbh so I’m not too bothered there either, and as I wont be able to speed, its only going to be accidents or tied to other illegal activities. bring it on
Automatic fines are already being used by councils for anyone who accidentality wanders into a bus lane so nothing from stopping automatic fines for driving at 31 MPH for a few seconds in a 30 zone.
With the way speed limits signs are posted these days, many of which are hidden in over grown hedges or hidden by trees or don’t do this or don’t do that road signs it very easy to accidentality go over the limit, be it for a short time but if its only a few seconds and computer says you done it then you are guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. How often does your satnav give incorrect speed limits?
As for the police needing a good reason reminds me of an episode of The Sweeney when Regan wanted a villain in custody for a few hours and asks Carter to arrest him and Carter says “but he’s not done anything wrong” and Regan says “he drives a car doesn’t he so he must be breaking the law somewhere”, fiction I know but not far from the truth.
