Hi Glos Guy I have to disagree with the different league bit, I can assure you the engines and gearbox of rival manufacturers are built just as good and as far as the fit and finish is concerned I think the Japanese and Koreans would take issue with you there. I’m not saying the Q3 is not a decent car, it is, but I wouldn’t describe it as Premium.
Have you owned many Audi’s or BMW’s Moggy? I’m not saying that this applies to you, but many people who dismiss brands like these as ‘badge snobbery’ have rarely owned them to make the comparison. Until very recently we had four cars in our household – BMW, VW, Ford and Hyundai. There was absolutely no question whatsoever, based on the factors that I mentioned, as to which was premium, which was upper mid-sector, which was mid sector and which was budget. None are bad cars (in fact, thankfully, there are virtually no bad cars these days) but there are big and very noticeable differences between them. A mate of mine has a top of the range new Hyundai Santa Fe. Over £40k I think. I have been in it loads of times and although it’s huge and very well equipped, you can still tell that it’s a budget brand.
