Audi Q3 Keyless?

      <p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi All,</p>
Cancelling my CLA premium plus order (Wait time + poor customer service didn’t really want to give them an AP of nearly 4K) Anyway….

I called Audi today to place an order for the Q3 Black Edition…. however I had to pause when the fella told me that the car does not come with Keyless Entry but what shocked me the most was that he said the car is not keyless ignition ?. I actually had to ask the fella “you mean it’s like old school where as you have to put a key in and turn it” ?

All my last three Motability cars have had keyless ignition start. I’m so surprised that a company like Audi do not have that.

Sorry it’s abit a long but I just had to get it out of my system ?

      Whats your thoughts on this?
      thanks

Good for safety reasons but not so good if keyless comes as a blessing for your personal needs. Good choice of car, il be making the same change as yourself for almost identical reasons

I think it’s poor, really poor. And the bigger crime – not making it available as an option. I’ve had a Q3 since 2016, and paid £250 for Advanced key (keyless entry & start). I would have ordered the new Q3 in a heartbeat, had I been able to have it in Keyless form.

This, and the option “Packs’, have made it much more difficult choosing a car, in my opinion. To get the car how I would like it can mean adding 3 Packs to get, for example, 3 options I want. Obviously adding thousands to the AP.

I understand the likes of Audi, BMW are keen to streamline the ordering/ manufacturing process, but it’s very, very annoying for us customers.

I can understand keyless entry not being standard kit, but I was amazed to find out that’s it not even an option – either stand alone or part of a pack – given that Audi is a premium brand. Keyless entry would be a strong preference for me now, particularly the tailgate feature where you can wave your foot under the rear of the car and the tailgate opens, which is very useful when manoeuvring my wife’s wheelchair. The lack of it wouldn’t necessarily stop me from getting a car, but I would miss it. I literally cannot remember the last car that I had where you had to put a key in the ignition!

Very weird as Ireland get keyless, Europe get it and so do America all as standard on s line up. Also, my brother has a ateca with keyless, he was out one day when all of a sudden the car key ran out of battery so it wasn’t driveable and he couldn’t lock it, he quickly went to a local Sainsbury which had the battery it needed to swap, what if he was in the middle of no where?? Anyway just in case anyone didn’t know, they ran out of battery (we all didn’t in my family) key was only one years old as well

All this is true, and so on. But the in all the plus points outweigh the minus points, you are getting a £37000 premuim small SUV for 6.5% of the rrp.

The quality of the interior, the tech and the street kerb appeal.

Where i live there are lots of takers for this car, many school run drivers(in normal times) wanting to show off their premuim suv’s!

When working out your calculation you seem to have forgotten the PIP (or equivalent) that you are sacrificing in addition to the AP (almost £10k over 3 years), which means that you are paying more like 34% of the rrp, not 6.5%. I get the point you are making though. As a general rule, the more expensive the car, the better value it is through Motability. Those getting small runabouts, even with zero AP, can be paying 60% of the rrp (as the same £10k is sacrificed, regardless of choice) and may in some cases have found better value by going private!

Whilst talking about spec on the Q3, can I ask those who may be more familiar with them than me a couple of questions?

When shortlisting cars for our forthcoming change I listed all the features that I consider to be ‘essential’ in a car and as long as I add the Comfort and Sound Pack (£1,195) then the Q3 ticks all those boxes. I also have a list of ‘preferred’ equipment and there were a few things that I couldn’t see mentioned as either standard or optional equipment. We have already discussed keyless access but I can’t find any mention of Adaptive Headlights either? The standard headlights are LED and it seems that you get High Beam Assist if you buy the £800 pack that includes Adaptive Cruise, but I can see no mention of proper adaptive headlights (the ones that ‘cut out’ oncoming traffic from your full beam and then ‘fill in the gap’ as soon as that car passes). I’ve had that on my last few cars and would miss it.

Also, whilst I have never owned a car with Head Up Display I have driven a BMW with it and would add it if the cost wasn’t prohibitive. Again, I can’t even see it listed as an option on the Q3, which surprised me given that the Audi Sat Nav and Digital Cockpit is so good. Am I missing something regarding these features? Thanks.

I dont know why people regard this car as premium, whatever that means, it’s really not.

I have no axe to grind on this moggy as I’ve never owned one, but Audi is most certainly a premium brand. Admittedly the Q3 is towards the lower end of the Audi range and doesn’t have anything like the same level of prestige as the bigger cars in their range, but the same is true of most premium brands. The X1 for example has quite a budget feel compared to models further up the BMW range, but it’s still a premium brand. Neither the Q3 or X1 will ever turn heads, but there’s no denying that the quality of fit, finish, engines, transmissions etc are in a different league to many other manufacturers, and that’s where the ‘premium’ tag comes from.

                          Glos Guy,

Matrix headlights are standard on Vorsprung Trim, but not available as an option on any other trim.

As far as I can see, you cannot get the Head up display on a Q3

Thanks Topher. A shame, but at least I know that my detective skills are still sharp! It’s a very odd policy though. Of all the premium / upper mid sector SUV’s on my shortlist, the Q3 is the only one where I cannot even pay extra for options that I would like.

Another question (sorry) but am I correct in thinking that the rear seats in the Q3 can slide backwards and forwards? I’m concerned that the Q3 boot may be too small for my wife’s wheelchair, but that might be overcome if the rear seats slide forward. We have this feature in our Tiguan and it’s very useful but it’s a £350 option on the X1. Thanks.

I have to disagree with the different league bit, I can assure you the engines and gearbox of rival manufacturers are built just as good and as far as the fit and finish is concerned I think the Japanese and Koreans would take issue with you there.

I’m not saying the Q3 is not a decent car, it is, but I wouldn’t describe it as Premium.

Have you owned many Audi’s or BMW’s Moggy? I’m not saying that this applies to you, but many people who dismiss brands like these as ‘badge snobbery’ have rarely owned them to make the comparison. Until very recently we had four cars in our household – BMW, VW, Ford and Hyundai. There was absolutely no question whatsoever, based on the factors that I mentioned, as to which was premium, which was upper mid-sector, which was mid sector and which was budget. None are bad cars (in fact, thankfully, there are virtually no bad cars these days) but there are big and very noticeable differences between them. A mate of mine has a top of the range new Hyundai Santa Fe. Over £40k I think. I have been in it loads of times and although it’s huge and very well equipped, you can still tell that it’s a budget brand.

Ok. That’s fair enough then. As I say, I have never owned an Audi and I don’t have as much experience of them as, say, BMW, but another mate of mine had an A6 Avant and whilst I didn’t think it was as good as the BMW 5 Series that I had at the same time, I still felt that it was a car that I would describe as premium. Never been in a Q5 but it would be very high on my list of it were ever to make it onto the scheme, probably second only to the X3 if that ever appeared at the same time ?

Hi, not 100% certain but on my gtd if the fob battery goes flat then you can remove/unclip a small part of the door handle to reveal the keyhole for the key, so after opening the door you then put the key fob against the side of the steering column and apparently the car will still be able to recognise the key and then you just press the start button…….presto.

ps, if I’m mistaken then just ignore everything I just said…Thanks.

NEW – Motorline offers Motability cars from leading carmakers including Toyota, Skoda, Audi, Hyundai and Peugeot. They have dealerships in Kent, West Sussex, Surrey, Thames Valley, the South West and the West Midlands.

Audi – Up to £250 Advance Payment contribution (or Motability Cashback) with selected new Audi Motability cars.

All offers are subject to availability and may be withdrawn at any time.

Khalid your correct some models do have this feature which is very helpful if the fob runs out of battery, but you should double check with your dealer to be sure.

All keyless entry/start systems have to have a manual override feature built into them for the possibility of leaving a driver stranded hundreds of miles from civilization without a phone signal, when I was researching my current car (it has keyless) I checked more than a dozen different vehicles with keyless and they all had a backup system in place.

                                                  Copied from Wiki:

If the battery in the smart key becomes depleted, it is necessary for there to be a backup method of opening and starting the vehicle. Opening is achieved by an emergency (fully mechanical) key blade usually hidden in the smart key. On many cars emergency starting is achieved by use of an inductive coupling. The user either has to put the key in a slot or hold it near a special area on the cockpit, where there is an inductive coil hidden behind which transfers energy to a matching coil in the dead key fob using inductive charging.
