I think a lot of it is down to how much practice you’ve had at it. When I took my test parking wasn’t taught or tested, so my first learnings were done on the job so to speak. I used to live on a terraced street near Barry Island (think Stacey’s house or Uncle Bryn’s and you’d be pretty close), and unless you developed parking skills quick smart you’d be walking a mile home! This seems to have left me in good stead over the years, and I still feel pretty competent using my own built in biological gadgets. The proximity sensors are useful especially on a big car but I can’t get used to the rear camera system at all. I’ve never had a self parking car but I bet I’d feel the same way about that. If I ever struggle I hand the keys to my significant other as she’s the most competent driver I’ve ever known.
You’d hope that seeing as they teach and test parking these days that the quality would keep getting better, probably a vain hope though. It’s maybe more down to the fact that joe public is an ignorant tosser who doesn’t care how many others he/she inconveniences as long as they’re alright. It’s the same with blue badge parking with no badge. Prior to having one I would never have thought of using a disabled space, or a child space when my kids weren’t with me, and yet so many people do. I reckon only about 2/3rds of cars parked in disabled spaces have a badge displayed, at least in private car parks anyway. It’s just the way the world seems to be. Good job I’m bloody perfect to balance out all the muppets. ?
