<p style=”text-align: left;”>Quick question as road tax is currently free for battery vehicles can I still use my road tax reduction due to PIP on my other car?</p> I’m thinking about getting an EV on motability for all the local journeys when it’s just the 4/5 of us. For towing the van or holidays or when kids take friends with them using the Grand Voyager which costs a fortune in road tax otherwise. If that’s doable it’d be a brilliant solution esp as I’ve had a mileage based insurance quote if £170 per year then pennies per mile Anyone else come across this yet? Thanks.

If hyou tap the following question into the Motability Q&A bot on the Motability website you get the following:

Q: Can I change the tax class of my Motability vehicle?

A:It is possible to change the tax class of your vehicle once your agreement has gone live; either from disabled to private class, or from private to disabled class. You will need to call us to discuss this further on 0300 456 4566; or if available, use Live Chat to talk to an Advisor now.

Please note that disabled class tax exemption can only be used on one vehicle at a time.

So, it would appear possible to tax your Motability vehicle into another class and use your disabled exemption elsewhere. However you have to contact them about it.

I think if you do this though, you are personally responsible for keeping your Motability vehicle taxed annually (even though it is nil taxation).
